NBA: Toronto Raptors at Houston Rockets

The Toronto Raptors will look to put the brakes on a four-game skid on Tuesday when they visit former head coach Nick Nurse and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Toronto’s up-and-down season is on the downslide again after suffering a fourth staright loss on Sunday, 94-87 in Houston. The Sixers haven’t been much better after dropping three in a row, capped by a 135-127 decision in Milwaukee on Sunday.

Philadelphia is a 9.5-point favourite to win on the NBA odds, with the total set at 225.5.

Raptors vs. 76ers NBA Betting Odds

This is only the second meeting of the year between the teams. The Raptors took the first game, 115-107, in Toronto in late October, covering as a five-point underdog. The teams will face off in the Six again on March 12 and once more in Philadelphia on March 30.

Despite Toronto’s win in October, it’s tough to overlook the fact that the 76ers had won seven straight prior head-to-heads. Both teams are so far out of the playoff picture that they’re not even currently occupying a play-in spot. Philadelphia is 11th in the Eastern Conference, 1.5-games back of 10th, and the Raptors are 13th, six games back of the play-in.

One area Toronto has the clear edge in, is as a cover option. The Dinos are 31-21-1 against the spread this season, while the Sixers are just 20-32 ATS. Toronto has covered in five straight road games and Philly has failed to cover in four of their last five overall.

When it comes to totals betting, both teams are trending to higher scoring games. The Raptors have hit the Over in four of their last five games and Philly has finished above the number in five of six.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto covered as an 8.5-point favourite against Houston, but that’s not much solace for a team stuck in an awkward position in the standings. The Raptors will be hard-pressed to even make the play-in tournament this year, let alone the playoffs, and there are four teams ahead of them when it comes to the quest for the first overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Injuries haven’t helped matters, with RJ Barrett (concussion), trade addition Brandon Ingram (ankle) and Jakob Poeltl (hip) all ruled out of the lineup on Tuesday. Gradey Dick is expected to play after missing the second half against the Rockets because of a neck injury.

Philadelphia 76ers

It’s been a hugely disappointing season for the 76ers, who are locked into a battle for a play-in tournament spot, despite entering the year with high expectations. Tyrese Maxey has been one of the lone bright spots and he is coming off a 39-point performance in the loss against the Bucks. Maxey, who averages a team-high 28.1 points per game, has scored at least 25 points in 18 straight games.

Joel Embiid is listed as questionable on Tuesday due to a nagging knee injury. Embiid has been limited to just 16 games this season because of injury and he recently made headlines when he said he expects he’ll need another surgery on his ailing left knee in the upcoming off-season.
