The NBA trade deadline came and went and the Toronto Raptors stood pat with their roster. NBA oddsmakers have them listed as one of the favourites to win the title this year.

The Toronto Raptors are leading the Atlantic Division by 4.5 games and sit second to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference so maybe it shouldn’t be that surprising that general manager Masai Ujiri didn’t pull the trigger on any deals before last week’s NBA Trade Deadline.

“I think it showed in the past that we are willing to give our players a chance. And we have great chemistry, we won 14 out of 16 (before the deadline), why can’t it continue to grow?” Ujiri told reporters.

“That’s the way we feel and this should give them confidence. Trade deadlines are usually hectic and everybody’s thinking about it, but our history says we’ll get better in the summer if we have to and in terms of our players, we will give them the platform to perform, and this should give them all the confidence in the world we hope.”

Bettors have a lot of confidence in the Raptors too. The Raps, who are 30-24 against the spread this season, are set as -1000 favourites to win the Atlantic Division and they’re now at +600 to win the Eastern Conference crown. At the moment they sit fifth on the NBA title odds board at +1500.

Toronto also hopes to get swingman DeMarre Carroll back next month after he’s been out for the last 18 games following knee surgery. He’s back working out now and if he can check into the lineup soon, that will be a major addition to the team without subtracting anything from the roster. Carroll was averaging 11.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game before his injury.
