The Los Angeles Lakers finally found a way to pick up their first win of the season after starting the year 0-2. It was a tough 121-118 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies behind the 28 points of Carmelo Anthony. The San Antonio Spurs seem to be on a different path, beating the Orlando Magic in their season opener and then losing their last two games, including a 121-111 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Which of these teams will be able to fight their way back to .500, and which will drop down to 1-3?
L.A. is a 5-point favourite to win on the NBA odds, with a total of 220.5.
Lakers vs. Spurs NBA Betting Odds
The Lakers are 5-1 straight up in their last six games played against San Antonio but are just 0-6 ATS in their past six games overall. The under has also benefited from the Lakers playing on the road as it has cashed out in four of their last six games overall when they travel.
Meanwhile, the Spurs are a measly 1-7 straight up in their last eight matchups overall. They are also just 2-5 ATS in their past seven games played during the month of October.
Los Angeles Lakers
Anthony was really one of the few bright spots for this Lakers squad against the Grizzlies. His 28 points off the bench helped lift them over a team that out-rebounded them 49-36, which included them gathering twice as many offensive boards. Russell Westbrook near had a triple double with 13 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. LeBron James added 19 points, six rebounds and six assists of his own to help get them over the edge.
One of the biggest things to watch out for in this game is the health of James as he is listed as questionable. His absence could severely hurt their chances if he can’t go. Talen Horton-Tucker is also questionable. Luckily, Los Angeles does have Anthony Davis to try and keep them afloat in their absence.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs are going to need to be a lot more aggressive to beat the Lakers in this game. When they played the Bucks, they only made it to the charity stripe six times, sinking five of those free throws. The majority of their punishment was from beyond the arc with Doug McDermott dropping 25 points and seven 3-pointers. Keldon Johnson added 20 points and Lonnie Walker IV poured in another 17.
This is a group that has a lot of young talent and are still trying to piece it all together. It’s unclear who are the stars, who can be relied in crunch time and who is going to lead this team. They have a severe disadvantage in the experience department as the Lakers average the oldest age in the league by quite a significant margin. San Antonio can’t play scared; they have to attack the rim and keep the Lakers from jumping out to a big early lead.
