Golden State's Steph Curry Wins NBA MVP
Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry was named this year’s NBA MVP by getting 100 first place votes out of 130 possible. Houston Rockets guard James Harden came in a close second, receiving 25 of the first place votes.
A sixth year pro out of Davidson, Curry averaged 23.8 points, 7.7 assists and 2.04 steals per game for the Warriors in the 2014-15 regular season. A dazzling sharp shooter, Curry was lights out from behind the three point arc, shooting 44.3 percent and also led the league in free-throw percentage at 91.4 percent.

Despite his clear ability and highlight reel play, Curry wasn’t always regarded as the polished point guard he’s turned into. He grew up the son of former NBA player Dell Curry and wasn’t offered scholarships after graduating high school. Several schools believed the younger Curry to be too small to play at the college level. He went on to be a star at Davidson University, putting on a spectacular performance in the NCAA tournament, but pro-level scouts were skeptical as to whether his size and skill would transfer to the NBA, where point guards are bigger and defenses even tougher.
Curry has gone on to set the NBA on fire, becoming the one of the best pure shooters the league has ever seen who can leave a defender embarrassed and pull off some incredible passes. Curry currently has his Warriors leading the Memphis Grizzlies 1-0 in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Curry opened at +3300 to win the MVP at the start of the season, but by the end of the year he was +400.
With the once forgotten Warriors winning at a historic pace with Curry at the helm, it was no surprise to learn of his MVP accomplishments. The Golden State Warriors now sit at -120 to win the championship. He’s Golden State’s first MVP since Wilt Chamberlain won the award in 1960. Curry will receive the hardware in an on-court pre-game ceremony when the Warriors host the Grizzlies in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinal on Tuesday night.
