Georges St-Pierre is making a comeback. It appears as though the UFC legend and Sports Interaction spokesman is ready to return to the octagon.
After a three-year hiatus from competitive mixed martial arts reports indicate that Georges St-Pierre has agreed to a multi-fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Terms of the agreement have not been made public, but the former welterweight champ is expected to fight in a UFC bout in 2017.
Georges St-Pierre UFC Odds
St-Pierre, who is now 35, will come back to the UFC riding a 12-fight winning streak, but will he be the same dominant fighter as he once was? Three years away from competitive fighting is a long time away from a sport that is changing so quickly, but to St-Pierre’s credit, he has been training regularly for more than a year.
Given is stature in the MMA world, if he wants a title shot in his comeback fight, the UFC probably wouldn’t have any objections. Another option would see him move up a weight class to tangle with current champ Michael Bisping, who owns the record for most UFC victories at 20 – one ahead of GSP.
UFC Betting Odds
Of course setting UFC odds for legend making a comeback is always tricky, but GSP will have no shortage of suitors to welcome him back into the octagon. Word has it that St-Pierre is targeting a fight in the third quarter of 2017, but that’s speculation at this point. If the right matchup presented himself, would anyone be shocked to see him jump at an opportunity to fight twice in 2017 – especially if he has the opportunity to headline a card in Canada?
So, a lot of questions still need to be answered before St-Pierre fights again, but now that the contract is out of the way, fight fans can look forward to seeing arguably the best ever get back in the game.
