The Masters 2019 Predictions and PGA Golf Betting Odds
It’s officially spring! That’s what many golfers believe, anyway, when the Masters arrives on the PGA Tour schedule each year. It’s a field of 87 set to tee it off starting Thursday at Augusta National.
Betting the 2019 Masters at Augusta National
The Masters is considered the most prestigious of the four Grand Slam events on the PGA/European Tours and usually has the smallest field by far because it’s an invitational. Golfers can’t go Monday qualify to earn a spot like other tournaments on the PGA Tour. Just 87 golfers set to play this year at Augusta National. The Masters is also the only slam to be played at the same course each year. Of course, the winner not only goes down in history but receives a green jacket. It’s easily the best week of the year for golf fans and bettors.
Augusta National is a par 72 measuring 7,475 yards. The most famous stretch on the course is holes 11, 12 and 13, known as Amen Corner. No. 11, named White Dogwood, is a par 4 at about 505 yards and often plays as the most difficult hole on the course. No. 12, Golden Bell, is a dangerous par 3 at 155 yards that requires a tee shot over Rae’s Creek. No. 13, Azalea, is a par 5 at 510 yards and offers an eagle chance.
Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods Among Masters Betting Favourites
Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy has accomplished just about everything in his career but win a green jacket as he looks for the career Grand Slam. McIlroy is the +680 favourite, and he’s having a fantastic year with seven Top-10 finishes in seven PGA Tour events. That includes a win at the Players Championship. McIlroy also has five straight Top-10 finishes in this tournament and was in command in 2011 heading to the back-nine on Sunday before imploding.
Dustin Johnson is +1100 with England’s Justin Rose at +1200. DJ lost the world No. 1 ranking back to Rose on Monday. Neither has won at Augusta. Rose has been a runner-up twice, including losing a 2017 playoff to Sergio Garcia – a playoff is sudden death at the Masters. Johnson has been Top 10 here his past three trips but was injured in a fluke accident before the 2017 tournament when he was favoured and had to withdraw.
Tiger Woods has won four green jackets, two off the record by Jack Nicklaus, but not since 2005. Woods is +1400. Jon Rahm (+1600), Rickie Fowler (+1700), Justin Thomas (+1800) and Jordan Spieth (+1900) round out the favourites. Only Spieth of that group has won the Masters, doing so in 2015. He also has two second-place finishes but is really struggling this year.
2019 Masters Props and Canadian Golfer Odds
This tournament got a bit more interesting for Canadians when Corey Conners got one of the most unlikely Masters invites ever. The 27-year-old had to Monday qualify (among 73 players) simply to play in the Texas Open last week in San Antonio with the tournament winner earning the final Masters spot if not already qualified. Conners had to drain a 30-footer for birdie just to get into a six-for-one playoff on Monday but won that and then won the Texas Open for his first Tour victory.
He’s +12500 to win the Masters and +1200 for a Top 10. Sports Interaction also offers Conners-only specials like whether his first drive on Thursday is in the fairway or not, if he makes the cut or not, breaks 70 in Round 1, has a first-round eagle or goes bogey-free on Thursday.
The only Canadian to win this tournament was Mike Weir in 2003, and thus the lefty can play here forever. Weir is +30200 to win.
2019 Masters Picks
Bet Spieth, Rose and Paul Casey for Top 10s but the winner is McIlroy. He’s way overdue at Augusta and playing better than anyone in the world right now. On the winning nationality prop, a non-American is -111 with someone from the USA at -125.
