AT&T Byron Nelson: 2022 PGA Tour Betting Odds

Scottie Scheffler is favoured on the golf odds.

That next week’s PGA Championship isn’t far from Texas at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla., may have led to a few more star players deciding to play this week than normally would before a major. The Byron Nelson dates way back to 1944 and some of the legends of the game have won the event. It has been played at a handful of courses and moved to TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, in 2021. It’s a par 72 at approximately 7,470 yards.

The tournament got a nice break when world No. 1 and Masters champion Scheffler committed, but he’s from the Dallas/Fort Worth area as several PGA Tour professionals are.

The defending champion is K.H. Lee, who finished 25-under 263 and three strokes up on second-place Sam Burns. The 25-under mark was a tournament record but the total of 263 wasn’t. Lee only had three bogeys all weekend and none in Rounds 2-3. He played the first holes Sunday in 5-under to move four shots ahead of Burns, who lead after three rounds.

Lee was the second straight South Korean to win the tournament following Sung Kang in 2019 (no event in 2020 due to COVID). A total of three players from that country have won it (Sangmoon Bae in 2013). Lee was also the 12th international winner of the tournament since 2000. He is +8000 to repeat.

Scottie Scheffler is the +850 favourite. He has won his past two tournaments as an individual: The WGC-Match Play and the Masters, and was last seen with a T18 finish in the two-man team event at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans a few weeks ago. His best result at this tournament is T22.

Justin Thomas is +1300; has six Top-10 finishes in 11 starts this season but yet to win. He hasn’t played this tournament in a handful of years. Texas native Jordan Spieth is +1600 with Dustin Johnson at +1800 and Xander Schauffele +2000. Spieth has won twice career in his home state but not this tournament. He was T9 last year. Johnson plays for the first time since he married Paulina Gretzky. It’s DJ’s first time playing the event since 2017. Schauffele missed the cut the lone time he played here.

No Canadian has won this tournament – Mike Weir was a runner-up by two shots to Brendon Todd in 2014. Roger Sloan was the top finisher last year at T34, while Michael Gligic was T47. David Hearn missed the cut. Adam Hadwin is +6500 this week with Mackenzie Hughes +10000, Nick Taylor +14000, Adam Svensson +16000, Sloan +38000 and Gligic +50000.

AT&T Byron Nelson Golf Predictions

Last year, we picked Matt Kuchar to win, and he was third entering the final round but shot 73 and finished T17. We’ll take Jordan Spieth at +1600 for his second straight victory on Tour – he won the RBC Heritage last month in his most recent start.
