AlphaTauri’s Ricciardo Breaks Hand, to Miss Dutch GP

The drama happened about 20 minutes into Friday’s second practice run. After a McLaren’s Oscar Piastri spun out of control on the right wall, Ricciardo was forced to make a quick decision. That resulted in him bumping into the wall too, only he came out worse for wear.

The contact resulted in a broken left hand. Ricciardo was taken to a local hospital to care for his injury.

The team announced that Liam Lawson will take Ricciardo’s place for Sunday’s race. Lawson has been in Japan’s Super Formula championship.

AlphaTauri lives in the basement of the Formula 1 constructors’ standings with only three points. All were earned by Japanese pilot Yuki Tsunoda.
