Baltimore Orioles Defeat Rockies but Lose Pitcher Felix Bautista

After trailing the Colorado Rockies 4-2 in Friday’s night opener against the Colorado Rockies, the Baltimore Orioles climbed their way back for a 5-4 victory, but potentially at a high cost. Their top closer Felix Closer left the match in the ninth inning with arm discomfort.

Orioles’ Felix Bautista Exits Game With Injury

With the Orioles up 5-4 at home in the bottom of the ninth inning, it was time to send in Felix Bautista. He leads the team with 33 saves this season and is in a tie for second in MLB with San Francisco Giants closer Camilo Doval.

With two outs Bautista went for a fastball, but he moved very awkwardly during his release mechanics, as if he slipped. Clearly, something was wrong and after a brief meeting on the mound, he exited the match.

Manager Brandon Hyde spoke with the media after the game but divulged very little.

“Bautista left the game with some arm discomfort. He is still being checked out. I’m not going to discuss it any further than that. We are going to get a bunch of tests and see how it is.”

Should their ace closer be out of commission for an extended period, the Orioles would be faced with a delicate situation. He accounts for saving almost half of the club’s 80 wins (80-48). As of Saturday morning, he is listed as day-to-day.

Danny Coulombe got the final out and the save in Friday’s contest.
