Stampeders vs. Lions Prediction: CFL Week 10 Point Spread, Odds

The Lions have work to do to regain their form after suffering a crushing 50-14 loss to Winnipeg last week that cost them sole possession of the top spot in the CFL West standings. Conversely, the Stampeders travel to BC on a high after snapping a two-game slide with an impressive 20-7 win over the previously undefeated Toronto Argonauts in Week 9. Conversely, they have struggled to generate offence at times while falling to defeat in four of their past five dates with BC.

The Lions have improved to 6.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 10 odds after opening as 5.5-point chalk. The Stamps have faded to lengthy +213 road underdogs, and the total is unchanged since opening at 45.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

Saturday night’s matchup at BC Place marks the second of three meetings this season between these CFL West Division rivals. The Lions rolled to a decisive 25-15 victory as 1.5-point road favourites in Week 1, and have now won and covered in four of five head-to-head clashes since the beginning of last season. With Calgary averaging just 14 points per game, the total has gone UNDER in each of their past three dates, ending a 4-0 run for the OVER.

Calgary Stampeders

The Stampeders breathed new life into their season with last weekend’s stunning upset of the visiting Argonauts. With Toronto pivot Chad Kelly forced to leave the contest early on due to an ankle injury, the Stamps limited the high-powered Argo attack to just 202 yards of net offence.

But while that stingy performance was certainly welcome, this team must find a way to spark their attack after scoring an average of just 19 points over their past two games and 18 or fewer points in two of their past three road dates. Quarterback Jake Maier managed to move the ball effectively with short passes, completing 22 of 24 attempts, but compiled a meagre 149 passing yards and failed to find the end zone for a second straight game. Rusher Dedrick Mills helped filled the void by gaining a game-high 137 yards, bringing his season total to 483 yards, but has also failed to score in his past three appearances.

BC Lions

The Lions should get a big lift from the return of quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., who is expected to be back in the lineup after being sidelined by a knee injury suffered in the team’s 19-9 win over Saskatchewan in Week 7. Adams’ return is timely considering the uncertain status of backup Dane Evans, who suffered a rib injury in last weekend’s loss to Winnipeg.

Indeed, in the wake of last week’s defeat, this team will be looking for the defence to bounce back. The Lions proved effective at shutting down opposing offences during their 6-1 start, particularly at home, where they have given up just 9.3 points per game this season. But, in addition to allowing the Bombers passing tandem of Zach Collaros and Dru Brown to rack up 448 combined passing yards and four touchdowns, the Lions offensive line also allowed Evans to be sacked eight times in his two recent starts.
