Blue Bombers vs. RedBlacks Prediction: CFL Week 7 Point Spread, Odds
Traded to Winnipeg by Ottawa earlier this season, Brown stepped up in place of injured passer Zach Collaros last weekend, leading the Bombers to 30-21 victory over Toronto that extends their current win streak to two games. Brown will be facing a RedBlacks squad looking for answers in the wake of last week’s crushing 40-17 loss in Edmonton that marks their 11th straight defeat since last year’s Labour Day weekend.
The Bombers roll into Ottawa as 4.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 7 odds. The RedBlacks trail as +195 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 55.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
The Blue Bombers swept last year’s two-game season series with the RedBlacks, capped by a 26-18 win in Ottawa last September, and have now claimed victory in 11 of 14 head-to-head meetings since 2016 including six of eight dates at TD Place Stadium. Despite Winnipeg’s recent dominance, six of the past seven clashes between these squads have been settled by a single score, and the RedBlacks have emerged victorious in two of three at home versus the Bombers. That tend has done little to boost the fortunes of Winnipeg betting fans, with the Blue Bombers going 3-4 ATS in their past seven versus Ottawa. However, totals bettors taking the UNDER have cashed winning tickets in seven of the past nine dates involving these teams. Undefeated on the road this season and currently trailing the CFL West-leading Edmonton Elks by just two points, the Bombers are an attractive +1100 bet on the CFL odds, while the winless RedBlacks are pegged as distant +5000 longshots.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Kicked to the curb by the RedBlacks, and described by head coach and GM Ryan Dinwiddie as a bit of “a distraction” and “lacking arm strength”, Dru Brown will be highly motivated to turn in a statement performance if he gets the call on Sunday. That will depend on the health of starter Zach Collaros, who missed last week’s win over the Argos with a neck injury. Considering Brown’s history with Ottawa and the current woeful state of the winless RedBlacks, it makes sense for the Bombers to give Collaros more time to heal. Brown boosted his own cause with a steady performance last week while tossing for 339 yards and one TD, and quickly developed chemistry with receiver Ontaria Wilson, who racked up 133 receiving yards while pulling in 10 of 14 targets.
Ottawa RedBlacks
After keeping things close in preceding losses to Montreal and Saskatchewan, the RedBlacks returned to familiar form in last week’s crushing loss to the Elks. The squad didn’t make things easy on themselves, failing to score in the first quarter for the second time in five outings this season, and have now averaged just four points in the opening frame so far this season. It was also a particularly tough night for the man who Dru Brown lost the starting passer’s job to, Jake Maier, who compiled a respectable 293 passing yards and one TD but also tossed four picks, bring his total interceptions on the season to seven. The RedBlacks’ woes were not helped by a feeble ground game that produced just 25 total yards last week and averaged just 57.2 yards and three total touchdowns. Things might have to get worse in Ottawa before they get better.
