Argonauts vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 2 Point Spread, Odds
The Montreal Alouettes aim to extend their lead atop the CFL East standings with a second straight win when they return to Percival Molson Stadium on Friday night to take on the archrival Toronto Argonauts in CFL Week 2 betting action.
The Alouettes opened their schedule with a 30-27 walk-off victory in Hamilton last week, and will be looking to celebrate this season’s home opener with a fourth straight victory over Toronto.
The Argonauts open their season looking to rebound after closing out their 2025 campaign with five straight losses and a dismal 5-13-0 record.
The Alouettes have emerged as 6.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 2 odds. The Argos trail as +240 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 51.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
The Alouettes have taken three straight from Toronto, but last season’s two wins came by the narrowest of margins, with the Als claiming victory by just three combined points in those contests including a 26-25 midseason win in Montreal.
Those close contests have produced disappointing results for Montreal at the sportsbook, where they have gone just 1-4-1 against the spread in six dates with the Argos including a pair of outright losses as betting chalk.
That trend has not been helped by the relative low scoring during Montreal’s 3-0-0 head-to-head run, which has sparked a 2-0-1 run for the UNDER in totals betting when these teams meet. That is a trend that could get extended unless the Argonauts can find a way to snap out of an offensive funk that saw them generate just 20.4 points per game during their season-ending five-game slide.
Conversely, the Als ran up the score while closing out year’s home schedule with three straight wins and 36.7 points per game.
Toronto Argonauts
Friday night’s season opener marks a chance for redemption for the Boatmen following a miserable 2025 campaign that ended with the squad outside the CFL playoff picture for the first time since 2019.
Chad Kelly is expected to play a major role in any turnaround by the club. Sidelined for the entirety of last season by injury, Kelly also saw action in just nine games in 2024 due to a lengthy suspension, raising concerns about how much rust he has to shake off. However, the 32-year-old’s upside is undeniable considering the impressive numbers he racked up in 2023, when he compiled 4,123 passing yards, 23 TD passes and eight scoring runs in just 15 games.
Kelly also enjoys the benefit of a receiving corps anchored by a pair of familiar faces. Makai Polk looks to return to the form that generated 1,024 receiving yards and five TDs in 2024 while Damonte Coxie has been a model of consistency down field over the past three seasons, averaging 833.7 yards and five scoring catches per season over that stretch.
Montreal Alouettes
The Alouettes needed to overcome a slow start with a fourth-quarter rally, capped by Jose Maltos Diaz’ game-tying field goal with no time remaining, followed by his game-winning FG in overtime.
The contest marked the successful return of Davis Alexander. The Als pivot was hobbled by injury through much of last season but looked to be back to full health while compiling 336 yards and two touchdowns on 28-for-36 passing.
Tyler Snead emerged as Alexander’s favourite target, pulling in nine passes for 163 yards and one score while Tyson Philpot contributed 76 yards and one scoring catch.
The Alouettes made limited use of their ground game, compiling just 80 total yards, with rookie Shomari Lawrence leading the charge. Lawrence was making his CFL debut after enjoying a solid final season of college ball last year at Missouri State, where he compiled 1,021 yards and seven scoring runs in 12 starts.
