2025 CFL Odds: Will Montreal Alouettes QB Davis Alexander be ready for the Grey Cup?
The Montreal Alouettes received a scare when quarterback Davis Alexander tweaked his left hamstring in Montreal’s 19-16 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Division Final on Saturday.
The big question right now is will Alexander be ready when the Alouettes travel to Winnipeg to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 112th Grey Cup on Sunday?
Here’s what you need to know.
Davis Alexander
Alexander, who is a perfect 13-0 in his career as a CFL starter, was on the injured list twice this season. The 27-year-old’s status is huge for the Alouettes as they went 7-0 with him starting in 2025 compared to 3-8 when he didn’t start.
“Davis has played with this injury for a few games, he played the majority of our training camp with it,” said Montreal head coach Jason Maas. “I know he knows how to deal with it but it remains to be seen how bad it is. If he does not go, we’ll still have the same expectation on our team, which is to go in and win.”
The Portland State product has an 11-0 record in the regular season and a 2-0 record in the playoffs for Montreal, the best start ever to a CFL career.
Alexander will obviously want to play and it’s tough to envision the Alouettes holding him out if he’s anywhere remotely close to being ready.
When Alexander tweaked his hamstring in the fourth quarter against the Ti-Cats, backup Mcleod Bethel-Thompson began warming up, but Alexander clearly made it known he wasn’t coming out of the game.
There was some concern when Alexander didn’t scramble on the Alouettes’ final drive against Hamilton. He was noncommittal when asked after the game if he could have run on the drive.
“That’s a really good question, I couldn’t answer that for you,” Alexander. “I didn’t play the cleanest game, but I don’t have to be Superman for this team to win. Whether people believe that or not, I hope now they do. This is a full unit, it’s one heartbeat. We talk about this all the time, we’re as resilient as it comes.”
This will be the third time the Montreal and Saskatchewan face off in the Grey Cup. The Alouettes beat the Roughriders in back-to-back years, 28-27 in 2009 and 21-18 in 2010.
