Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley Betting Odds and Prediction

Love him, hate him, or just don’t care about him, Jake Paul is sticking around the boxing world for the foreseeable future.  Next up for the YouTuber is Tyron Woodley, who is making his professional boxing debut after years in the UFC.  Unlike the Logan Paul-Floyd Mayweather fight, this bout will be sanctioned.  It’s an eight-round fight at cruiserweight, about 20 pounds heavier than Woodley fights at in the UFC.  Can Paul take advantage of being the more experienced boxer, or will Woodley’s combat sports history trump all else?

Paul is a -180 favourite to win on Sports Interaction’s boxing odds, while Woodley is a -100 underdog.  A draw is +1900.

Jake Paul Boxing Odds

While I won’t pretend Paul paid his dues in the boxing world and earned his way into the big money fights, I will say he looks more like a legitimate fighter than his brother.  Paul debuted professionally in January 2020, beating fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib by first-round TKO.  He followed that fight up with a second-round KO win over former NBAer Nate Robinson.  Paul’s last fight was a step closer to legitimacy, as he took on former UFC fighter Ben Askren.  Unfortunately, it looked like Askren was just in the fight for an easy paycheque.  Paul won by TKO in the first round.

This will be the toughest test yet for “The Problem Child”.  But, it’s not as farfetched to see Paul as the favourite as it may seem at first.  Paul is 15 years younger than Woodley, has a four-inch height advantage, two-inch reach advantage and he outweighs the former UFC star by at least 20 pounds.  One thing you can say about Paul is, he is fully invested (financially and physically) to boxing.  His solid foundation is built off of a simple, but efficient jab, which sets up his other punches.  That jab is something Woodley could struggle with, as it’s often underutilized in the UFC.

The main attack on Paul’s boxing career is his choice of opponents.  He cherrypicks easy targets who have no boxing experience, although he is starting to build a notable fighting resume off of those results.  He’s 3-0 in his professional boxing career with three knockouts, so the kid can box, but he also has a knack for picking opponents who don’t put up much of a fight.  Paul won’t see Woodley go down as easily as Askren, so let’s see how the YouTuber handles a longer fight.

Tyron Woodley Boxing Odds

Woodley is making his professional boxing debut at 39-years-old after being cut from the UFC following four straight losses.  Despite being a former UFC champion, Woodley doesn’t have a background in boxing.  He was an NCAA Division 1 wrestler and Big 12 champion.  Seven of his professional MMA wins have come by KO/TKO, but he hasn’t knocked anyone out since 2016.

Despite being more of a wrestler, “The Chosen One” does hold some knockout power.  He won the UFC welterweight belt by one-punching Robbie Lawler in 2016 and his right hook also knocked out Josh Koscheck in 2013.  It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the 10-ounce, fully wrapped gloves he’ll use on Sunday compared to the four-ounce gloves he used in the UFC.  Woodley has been training with Mayweather, arguably the greatest pound-for-pound boxer of all time, so the adjustment should be as smooth as possible.

Woodley has a lot to overcome in this fight.  He’s fighting at 190 pounds and has never fought above 170 pounds in the UFC.  He’s also 15 years older than his opponent and has a two-inch reach disadvantage.  Combine that with the fact he hasn’t won a fight in three years, going 0-4 in that time, and you start to see why he’ll be the underdog on Sunday.  Don’t get me wrong, Woodley could win this fight, but if his last few years in the UFC are any indication, it will be tough.

Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley Boxing Prediction

A lot will be made of Woodley’s much more experienced combat sports record, but let’s keep it in perspective.  Woodley is a wrestler and was never known as a striker in the UFC.  Paul is younger, bigger and has more boxing experience.  As much as I hate saying it, Paul wins this fight by fourth-round KO/TKO.
