Lions vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction
The Detroit Lions look to extend the NFL’s longest current win streak to five games when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs on the NFL Week 6 edition of Sunday Night Football.
The Lions have been dominant since suffering a season-opening loss to Green Bay, scoring over 40 points during their current 4-0 run, which includes decisive road victories over Baltimore and Cincinnati.
The Chiefs enter Week 6 sporting a losing record for just the second time in a decade after suffering a heartbreaking 31-28 defeat in Jacksonville last weekend, but have earned outright wins in nine of their past 10 appearances on Sunday Night Football.
The Chiefs’ recent success in primetime has factored into their climb to 2.5-point home favourites on the NFL Week 6 odds. The Lions trail as +115 NFL moneyline underdogs and the total sits at 53.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
These two teams will meet for the first time since September 2023, when the Lions eked out a 21-20 road victory in their first ever clash in primetime. Overall, the Lions have taken three of five from the Chiefs and have covered the spread in three of their past four head-to-head matchups. However, Kansas City has earned the win in nine of 14 all-time meetings in the Super Bowl era and have suffered just one home loss to the Lions since 1980.
However, to maintain that historical edge, the Chiefs must find a way to shut down Detroit’s league-leading offence, which has averaged 34.8 points and 4.2 touchdowns per game. The Kansas City offence has shown improvement over the past two weeks, with the squad scoring 32.5 points per game after averaging a meagre 20 points during a disappointing 1-2 start.
That has led to mixed results on the NFL odds, with the Chiefs covering the spread just twice while going 2-3 ATS. The Chiefs have also been a disappointment as small home chalk, going just 3-3 SU and ATS in their past six at Arrowhead Stadium when favoured by three or fewer points. Conversely, the Lions are rising a four-game ATS win streak including victories in their past two as double-digit chalk.
Detroit Lions
Jared Goff turned in another sensational performance in last week’s 37-24 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals, connecting for 258 passing yards and three touchdowns and has now tossed for 12 TDs through the first five games of the season.
Amon-Ra St. Brown has emerged as his favourite target, topping 100 receiving yards twice and making six scoring catches to date. St. Brown missed practice on Wednesday due to a wrist injury, which he described as something he has been dealing with for “a little while”.
The big concern for the Lions is the health of their defence. Already faced with a slew of injuries that has diminished their depth, the Lions now face the likely loss of cornerback Terrion Arnold with a shoulder injury. Arnold is joined on the injury report by Brian Branch, Avonte Maddox, and Kerby Joseph, all of whom have missed time at practice.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs showed flashes of their familiar dominant form while storming to an early 14-0 lead over Jacksonville last week, but were unable to contain the Jaguars attack after halftime on their way to a 31-28 defeat.
The fast start was welcome after the squad failed to score a first-quarter touchdown through the first four games of the season. However, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his three of his favourite receiving targets all finding their way onto this week’s injury report, another fast start could be a tall order.
Mahomes is nursing a groin injury but has not missed time at practice. Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster are also playing through injuries. However, Xavier Worthy was unavailable on Thursday due to shoulder and ankle injuries that leave his status uncertain.
