Roughriders vs. RedBlacks Prediction: CFL Week 5 Point Spread, Odds
The Ottawa RedBlacks have yet to win a game this season and aren’t likely to Friday in Week 5 of the CFL slate as the defending Grey Cup champion Roughriders visit. Saskatchewan is the biggest favourite of the week on the CFL odds at -4.5, and the total is 57.5 points.
CFL Odds and Betting
Entering Week 5 in the CFL, Edmonton is the only unbeaten team, while BC and Ottawa are the only winless clubs. While Saskatchewan comes off its first loss of the season, it remains the +270 favourite to repeat as Grey Cup champion. Ottawa is considered the league’s worst club and is a +4500 long shot.
Friday marks the first of two meetings this season with Ottawa visiting Saskatchewan in Week 10. The Roughriders are unbeaten in four straight games in the series, which includes an August 2024 tie. Last season, they prevailed 31-26 at home and 20-13 at TD Place Stadium. That victory was largely due to three interceptions by the Roughriders’ defence, including an Antoine Brooks Jr. pick-six.
Trevor Harris went 27-for-33 with 341 yards with a TD in Saskatchewan’s first win in the nation’s capital since 2017 (they tied there in ’24). Redblacks QB Dru Brown (recently traded) had a forgettable game in going 11-for-20 for 141 yards and three picks before being benched in the third for Dustin Crum.
Saskatchewan is 9-1 ATS in its last 10 in the series.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Roughriders were -3.5 at home last week but upset by Toronto, 40-34, to suffer their first loss of the season – technically they played as the road team in their own stadium and wore road white. Trevor Harris completed 34 of 43 for 409 yards and two scores. Saskatchewan had won the previous six games he had finished, including the 2025 Grey Cup.
Harris had thrown 197 consecutive regular-season passes without being intercepted before that ended in the first quarter. Former Roughriders legend Darian Durant holds the CFL record of 323 consecutive passes without an interception. Harris’ 1,175 passing yards are second-best total in franchise history after three games, behind Joe Paopao (1,240 in 1985).
Receiver Daniel Wiebe and running back Quali Conley each had a touchdown in their CFL debuts last week. No. 1 tailback AJ Ouellette was out with an ankle injury and questionable this week. Conley started in his place and rushed eight times for 50 yards, including a 17-yard TD.
Wideout Kian Schaffer-Baker missed practice Monday with an oblique injury and is in doubt this week. He has at least eight catches for 85 yards in all three games. Saskatchewan has scored 30-plus points in each of its first three for only the second time in franchise history (2013). The Riders are 4-1 ATS in their past five road games.
Ottawa RedBlacks
Ottawa played its best game of the early season by far last Sunday in Montreal but fell 37-35. In nearly leading a big second-half comeback from down 21-6 at the half, QB Jake Maier finished with 336 yards with three touchdowns and a pick.
“I thought Jake battled, I thought the offence battled, where we kind of found an identity in the second (half) and we got to build off of that,” coach Ryan Dinwiddie said.
Justin Hardy led Ottawa with seven catches for 119 yards and a TD, while Keelan White had two touchdown catches. Tailback Greg Bell posted nine carries for 40 yards despite leaving with a neck injury early in the game, but he was able to return.
Kalil Pimpleton had a 94-yard kick return touchdown that cut the Montreal lead to two late in the fourth quarter. That set up a crucial onside kick attempt that the Redblacks couldn’t recover. Ballgame. Brett Lauther stayed perfect on field goals this season by going 3-for-3. Ottawa is 1-8 ATS in its past nine games.
