Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Final Game 4 Prediction, NHL Odds
After two overtime games to start this series, Game 3 was about as bad as it could get for the Oilers, who were thoroughly outclassed in a 6-1 beatdown by the Panthers. Can Edmonton reset and re-take home ice advantage in Game 4, or will Florida move one win away from a second straight Stanley Cup?
The Panthers are -145 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.5.
Oilers vs. Panthers NHL Betting Odds
The Game 3 blowout was shocking for a numbers of reasons, including the fact recent head-to-head history has been so tight. Prior to Monday’s result, the last five games between the teams were decided by a single goal.
Florida is now a sizeable -250 favourite to win the series on the NHL futures board, while the Oilers are +200 underdogs. That’s a complete reversal of where these teams stood last week. Edmonton entered Game 1 as-125 Stanley Cup favourites and the Panthers were +105 underdogs.
The favoured exact series result is now a Florida win in six games at +230. The biggest long shot is Oilers in six at +625.
Sam Bennett, who leads the playoffs with 14 goals, is the new Conn Smythe Trophy favourite at +125. If you still think Edmonton can pull off a comeback, Connor McDavid, who leads the playoffs with 31 points, boasts tremendous value at +240 to win the Conn Smythe.
Edmonton Oilers
Game 3 was one of those results that you just throw in the trashcan and move on if you’re the Oilers. Absolutely no one on the roster showed up to play and that includes the top two scorers in the playoffs, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Edmonton has suffered from a series lack of physicality in the absence of Zach Hyman. The former Toronto Maple Leaf continues to lead the playoffs with 111 hits despite not playing since Game 4 of the Western Conference Final. There’s also concern about Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who was a game-time decision on Monday. Nugent-Hopkins is believed to be dealing with some sort of wrist or arm injury as he didn’t take a single draw in Game 3.
Goaltending was a question mark for the Oilers heading into this series and Stuart Skinner hasn’t done anything to quiet the doubters. Skinner, who was yanked from Game 3 after giving up five goals on 23 shots, has a brutal .866 save percentage for the series. Head coach Kris Knoblauch hasn’t said whether he’ll start Skinner or the 6-0 Calvin Pickard in Game 4.
Florida Panthers
Game 3 was a textbook performance from the Panthers, who goaded Edmonton into taking 85 penalty minutes, resulting in 11 power play chances for Florida. They showed off impressive depth, with six different goal scorers in the game.
One of those scorers was Brad Marchand. The former Bruins captain has been incredibly impressive with goals in every game of this series, including the OT winner in Game 2. The dup of Marchand and Sam Bennett has been lethal through three games, combining for eight goals.
You also can’t overlook Sergei Bobrovsky, who has completely out-duelled his Oilers counterpart. Bobrovsky shut the door in Game 3, turning aside 32 of 33 shots faced. The veteran netminder has done a lot to slow down Edmonton’s elite offence, posting a 2.37 goals-against average and .928 SV through the first three games of this series.
