Lions vs. Texans Point Spread: SNF Week 10 Odds, Prediction

The Lions are 3-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 48.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Detroit and Houston are two of four active NFL franchises to never reach the Super Bowl along with Jacksonville and Cleveland – the Jaguars and Browns have no shot this season, but the Lions and Texans are more than capable of getting to New Orleans in February.

The Lions had to play in San Francisco in last season’s NFC title game and blew a big lead and lost, but Detroit is in the pole position for the conference’s top seed this year as the only NFC club with just one loss. To repeat as NFC North champions, which should be the case, the Lions are -285 as well as +210 favourites to capture the NFC on the NFL futures board. We are writing this before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline and wouldn’t be surprised if the team added a pass-rusher by then after losing superstar end and former Defensive Player of the Year favourite Aidan Hutchinson to a season-ending injury a few weeks ago.

Houston made its big trade this offseason in landing Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs from Buffalo but lost Diggs to a season-ending injury in Week 8, so the Texans might be in the market for a wideout again ahead of the deadline — although they did use a fair amount of draft capital to get Diggs.

Just five meetings between the Texans and Lions with Houston leading 4-1 and winning the past four.

Detroit Lions

Detroit won its sixth game in a row Sunday, 24-14 in Green Bay on a rainy afternoon. The Lions, who have covered the spread in each game of that streak, had played their first seven games of the season indoors, the lone team to do so other than the 1998 Saints in NFL history. Jared Goff only threw for 145 yards with a TD Sunday, but his incredible run of accuracy continued as Goff was 18-for-22 passing. In the past six games, he’s completing 82.8 per cent of his throws with a rating of 140.1. Those are both the best in any six-game span in NFL history (minimum 100 pass attempts). Detroit is the only team since at least 1940 with more touchdowns (28) than incompletions (24) in a six-game span within a season.

The team is 7-1 for the first time since 1956. It’s not out of the question that Pro Bowl safety Brian Branch is suspended for this game. He was ejected Sunday due to a helmet-to-helmet hit and then flipped off the crowd at Lambeau. Branch will get a sizable fine at a minimum. No. 2 wideout Jameson Williams, one of the NFL’s fastest players, is eligible to return from a two-game suspension.

Houston Texans

While Houston was upset 21-13 at the desperate New York Jets on Thursday in Week 9, it didn’t cost the Texans in the AFC South because second-place Indianapolis lost Sunday so Houston still maintained its two-game lead that is really three thanks to the season sweep of the Colts. That Jets game was Houston’s first since losing Pro Bowl WR Stefon Diggs to a season-ending injury and the team’s fourth game in a row without rising star WR Nico Collins, and it showed. C.J. Stroud was just 11-for-30 for 191 yards in the loss but will get Collins back this week barring a setback. Stroud was sacked a career-high eight times and fell to 5-7 career on the road compared to 10-2 at home.

Tailback Joe Mixon became only the fifth player in league history to rush for at least 100 yards and a TD five times in his first six game of a season with a team. Houston played again without two injured defensive starters in linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and safety Jimmie Ward. The Texans are 1-6 ATS in their past seven November games.
