Toronto Tempo vs. Chicago Sky WNBA preview and prediction
Two teams coming off poor shooting performances in home losses over the weekend meet up in Chicago on Wednesday, as the Sky host the expansion Toronto Tempo at 8 p.m. ET.
Marina Mabrey had 19 points, eight assists, and five rebounds, Kiki Rice had 19 points and five rebounds, and Brittney Sykes added 10 points and five assists, but the Tempo shot just 24 per cent (6-25) from three-point land in a 99-80 setback to fellow expansion side Portland on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Kamilla Cardoso had 17 points and seven rebounds, and Skylar Diggins added 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists as the Chicago Sky could not overcome a 32 per cent (23-73) night from the field in an 85-75 defeat to the visiting Minnesota Lynx on Saturday. Chicago was just 6-29 (21 per cent) from long range and was badly out-rebounded by the Lynx, 54-28.
Toronto Tempo vs. Chicago Sky WNBA Odds and Betting Trends
The host Sky are listed as a 5.5-point favourite on the WNBA odds with a -210 moneyline. Toronto’s moneyline is at +175. The Tempo are 3-1 against the spread on the road, while Chicago is 0-2 straight up and against the spread at home.
The Over/Under for this contest is 171.5. The Tempo have played to the over in four of their past five games. Toronto, which is allowing 89.3 points per game, has one of the worst scoring defences in the WNBA. However, Chicago is just 13th in the 15-team league in scoring, averaging 83.3 points.
Toronto Tempo
The Tempo had just 19 assists against 17 turnovers against the Fire. Sykes had seven turnovers, while Mabrey, who did most of her damage offensively in the first half against Portland, had four. Toronto has to do a better job of protecting the ball against the Sky.
Rice, the rookie who just won a national championship at UCLA, is quickly fitting in, averaging 12.4 points, third-best on the team. The Tempo have been without veteran Isabelle Harrison the entire season, and Temi Fagbenle, who’s played just one game this season, is also out. Reserve Julie Allemand and emerging forward Nyara Sabally (9.2 PPG and 5.4 REB) are both listed as day-to-day.
Chicago Sky
The Sky were devastated by the loss of Rickea Jackson last week. The third-year forward was acquired from the Los Angeles Sparks last month for Ariel Atkins and was leading the team with 18 points a game before she suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Azura Stevens, a member of the Sky’s 2021 WNBA championship team, returned this offseason after averaging 12.8 points and 8 rebounds with the Sparks in 2025. However, she missed the team’s first five games with a bone bruise in her left knee. In her season debut against the Lynx on Saturday, Stevens had six points in 16 minutes.
Her presence is critical for Chicago, which is depending heavily on Cardoso (14.8 PPG and 9.8 REB) inside, and veteran acquisition Diggins (12.8 PPG and 5.4 AST) on the perimeter. Veteran signings DiJonai Carrington and Courtney Vandersloot have yet to play this season.
WNBA Prediction: Who will win Tempo vs. Sky?
Both teams need a spark. Toronto has lost two straight by a combined 47 points, and the Sky have lost two straight and three of four. Look for Chicago to pick up its first home win of the season in a close one, as Toronto covers the 5.5-point spread as underdogs in an 88-83 defeat.
