To win Group B, the USA is a +500 second favorite behind England with Wales +600 (Iran the long shot). That the group winner is the United States is -1244 with no at +577. The United States is ranked 16^th in the world under coach Gregg Berhalter and makes its 11^th World Cup appearance. It embarrassingly missed out in 2018 but earned a spot this time by finishing third in CONCACAF qualifying behind Canada and Mexico. Just four of the U.S. team’s 20 goals in 14 qualifying matches came from a center-forward. The Americans’ last World Cup warm-up was Sept. 27 and they drew 0-0 vs. Saudi Arabia. Christian Pulisic is by far the best player in the USA – who plays for English Premier League side Chelsea and won a Champions League title with the Blues — and he led the team with five qualifying goals. “He’s unbelievable on the ball – one of the most creative players in the game,” said Berhalter of Pulisic. He’s +340 to be an anytime scorer, but the favourite is teammate Jesus Ferreira at +200.

Team Wales

Coached by Rob Page, Wales is ranked No. 19 in the world and is in the World Cup for the first time in 64 years. It was actually the last team to qualify because the war in Ukraine delayed things. Wales beat the Ukrainians 1-0 on June 5 in a playoff (after previously beating Austria in the first playoff) for the bid on an Andriy Yarmolenko own goal off a deflected Gareth Bale free kick. Prior to that, Wales finished second in a group containing Belgium (winners) and Czech Republic (third), winning four of its eight matches and losing only once (to Belgium). Bale is one of the best players in the world and the country’s top goalscorer of all time. He joined MLS club Los Angeles FC in July 2022. Some believe he could retire from the sport after this tournament. Bale is +200 to be an anytime goalscorer.
