Hungary vs. France Prediction: Euro 2020 Betting Odds
After taking down Germany 1-0 in their opening match, tournament-favourite France will head to Budapest to face a Hungary team that was run over 3-0 by Portugal.
France is a -333 road favourite to win on the soccer odds, while Hungary is a heavy +860 underdog. A draw is at +390.
Hungary vs. France Betting Odds
The odds are split evenly on the Over/Under 2.5 goals for this one. It’s a lot more decisive on the ‘draw no bet’, with France at -1250 and Hungary at +540. Kylian Mbappe is a +380 favourite to score the first goal of the game and +112 to score anytime. There’s not much faith in Hungary’s offence as both teams scoring is at +124 and only one team scoring (which would likely be France) is favoured at -196. The favoured exact score is a 2-0 win for France at +350.
Hungary
It looked like Hungary might survive against the defending European Champions in their opening match of the tournament, until a late barrage of goals by Portugal in the final 10 minutes put Hungary in a rough spot in the standings. It actually looked like substitute Szabolcs Schon put Hungary up 1-0 until the goal was ruled offside. That seemed to spark Portugal, as they buried three goals on Hungary, including two from Cristiano Ronaldo, who became the Euros all-time leading scorer.
The news didn’t get much better for Hungary after the match. Forced to miss the Portugal match with a knee injury, midfielder Daniel Gazdag has officially pulled out of the tournament. Hungary does have a bit of offensive potential though, as Roland Sallai and Adam Szalai create a pretty good attack tandem. Combine that with Schon and Adam Nagy and Hungary could give France more trouble than people realize.
You need to look at the positives at this point if you’re Hungary. They were able to hold a powerhouse Portugal side goalless until the 84th minute and very well could have snuck out a win if the Schon goal hadn’t been called back.
France
France’s first test in the Group of Death was successful with a win over a strong German side. It could have been a much bigger win if goals by Karim Benzema and Mbappe hadn’t been disallowed. It was actually an own-goal by German defender Mats Hummels that stood as the winner. France is positioned well against Hungary. They’ve won five straight matches against the Hungarians and haven’t lost to them since 1976.
Keep an eye on Benjamin Pavard news as it gets closer to game time. There’s been a bit of backlash after the Bayern Munich defender played the entire 90 minutes against Germany, despite saying he was unconscious for 10 to 15 seconds following an in-game collision. Pavard is still likely to play, but if he doesn’t, Leo Dubois could make his tournament debut.
This game is a big opportunity for France. A win should see them move on to the knockout rounds and could secure top spot in Group F. They have the second-most clean sheets of any national team in 2021 and would record their sixth straight clean sheet by shutting out Hungary.
