West Ham Odds and News

West Ham comes into Wednesday afternoon’s match in the middle of a nightmarish skid.  They have lost 2-0 in each of their two games since their return from the league stoppage and only managed a combined three shots on target in those games.  This is a continuation of their season slide which has seen them walk away with just one win in their last 10 matches and puts them in danger of dropping into the relegation zone.

Part of West Ham’s issues is likely due to injuries suffered by key players.  Record-signing striker Sebastian Haller and defender Angelo Ogbonna are doubtful to be in against Chelsea while midfielder Robert Snodgrass and defender Arthur Masuaku are also on the injured list.

For all the struggles West Ham is currently enduring, one glimmer of hope lies in their recent history with Chelsea.  The Hammers have only lost once in their last five matches against Chelsea, since 2017, and are coming off a 1-0 win against the Blues in their last meeting, back in November.

Chelsea Odds and News

With several teams chasing them, Chelsea is looking to pull away from the pack, for Champions League qualifying.  They currently sit fourth in the Premier League and occupy the final Champions League spot for next season, but have five teams within 10-points of catching them.

Chelsea can taste the Champions League for next season and it shows in their results.  Although they sit fourth in the Premier League, they are only one point back of Leicester City, who they beat 1-0 on Sunday.

Winners of their last five matches over all competitions, Chelsea has won all three of their matches since the season restart.  This is mainly on the backs of their offense, as a rotating cast of centre-backs and poor performances from keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has seen them only produce two clean sheets in their last six matches.

In a match between two teams headed in opposite directions, the smart money should rely on Chelsea’s high-powered offense.  Although Chelsea’s weak defense might finally help West Ham score their first goal since the season restart, it likely will not be enough to overcome a Chelsea side looking to jump further ahead in the standings.
