Manchester United Odds and News
Manchester United is on a 17-game unbeaten streak in all competitions following a 3-0 victory Thursday at Aston Villa (we predicted a 3-1 score) as the Red Devils continue their push for a top-four league finish and spot in next season’s Champions League.
Bruno Fernandes (27th minute on penalty shot), Mason Greenwood (first-half stoppage time) and Paul Pogba (58th) minute all scored for Man U, which became the first team in the history of the Premier League to win four consecutive matches by a margin of three or more goals.
Man U has been awarded 13 penalty shots this season, tied for the most in EPL history. Meanwhile, it was the fourth goal in the past three games for the 18-year-old Greenwood, and he’s on pace to have a historic EPL season for a teenage. Goalkeeper David De Gea kept a clean sheet in his 339th appearance for Manchester United.
Fernandes was named Premier League Player of the Month for March/June (split months due to the shutdown), his second straight month winning the award. He’s only the seventh player in league history to go back-to-back. Fernandes has been directly involved in 12 goals in his first 10 Premier League games (seven goals, five assists) and has yet to lose a competitive match at United since arriving in January.
That Manchester United scores first Monday is -357 and to find the net in both halves -112. Anthony Martial is the +120 favourite to be an anytime scorer. Greenwood is +133 and Fernandes +141.
These sides played very early in the 2019-20 season to a 1-1 draw Aug. 31 at St. Mary’s Stadium. Daniel James gave Man U the lead in the 10th minute, but Jannik Vestergaard equalised in the 58th minute. The Saints went down to 10 men in the 73rd minute when Kevin Danso got a red card. The Red Devils outshot the hosts 21-10 and held possession for nearly 60 per cent of the match.
Southampton Odds and News
Southampton played to its first draw in five matches since the restart, 1-1 at Everton on Thursday. Danny Ings gave the Saints the lead in the 31st minute, but Everton tied in the 43rd. The Saints’ James Ward-Prowse hit the crossbar on a penalty shot in the 27th minute. Southampton held possession for 61 per cent of the match and outshot Everton 17-11. It was the Saints’ 10th point since the restart.
Ings’ goal was his 5th career in the EPL vs. Everton, the most against any opponent in the league for him. He has 19 league goals this season, among the leaders as he tries to win the Golden Boot. Ings had just seven goals last year and 21 combined in the previous four seasons. Ings is the +220 favourite on Southampton to be anytime scorer Monday. That the Saints score first is +270 and in both halves is +620.
Southampton has been quite good on the road this season with eight wins. Only three clubs have more away victories. When these teams played at Old Trafford last season, Manchester United won 3-2. Romelu Lukaku’s second goal of the game, coming in the 88th minute, was the winner. Lukaku now plays for Inter Milan in Serie A.
