English Premier League Odds: Manchester City vs. Arsenal Prediction
The second of two English Premier League games Wednesday as the EPL returns from a coronavirus shutdown for Matchday 30 features Arsenal visiting Manchester City with a 3:15 p.m. ET start time. The hosts are -313 favourites on the soccer odds with Arsenal at +660 and a draw at +440.
Manchester City vs. Arsenal Soccer Odds
Manchester City sits second in the Premier League with 57 points but will not be catching first-place Liverpool, which has 82. The top four finishers earn a spot in the following season’s Champions League. Man City, which is still alive in the Round of 16 in this season’s Champions League, is 12 points ahead of current fifth-place Manchester United.
However, City was given a two-year suspension from European club competitions and a €30 million fine by UEFA in February after being found guilty of breaching financial fair play regulations. The team has appealed the ruling and will learn its fate sometime next month. Arsenal is ninth in the EPL with 40 points, eight out of fourth.
Manchester City Odds and News
The Citizens entered the shutdown off a 2-0 loss at Manchester United on March 8. Both goals came on mistakes by City netminder Ederson. In addition, a Sergio Aguero goal for City was waived off on a questionable offsides call. Aguero leads the team with 16 goals in Premier League action. He also has scored 10 goals in his last 12 appearances against Arsenal in all competitions. Aguero is -172 to be an anytime goalscorer on Wednesday.
Sadly during the break, the mother of City manager Pep Guardiola died from the coronavirus.
Manchester City has won its past six matches vs. Arsenal in all competitions. That’s the best such run in the series in team history. The sides most recently played on Dec. 15 and City won 3-0. Kevin De Bruyne scored in the second and 40th minute and Raheem Sterling in the 15th. Arsenal was limited to six shots, its fewest at home in the Premier League since 2008. Freddie Ljungberg was the Gunners’ interim manager then.
Arsenal Odds and News
There could be a bit of history in this match if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scores. He has 49 goals in 75 career Premier League appearances. If he finds the net Wednesday, he will become the sixth-fastest in EPL history to reach 50. Andrew Cole holds the mark by doing so in 65 matches. Aubameyang has scored 61 goals in 97 overall appearances for Arsenal since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2018 and has a team-best 17 in EPL action this season. Aubameyang is +175 to be an anytime goalscorer in this match.
The Gunners entered the break unbeaten in their previous eight EPL matches. They also haven’t lost in their past seven EPL road games (six draws, though). Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, spent three-plus seasons at Man City as an assistant under Guardiola. Arteta took over just a few days after that first City match. The Spaniard spent the final five seasons of his playing career with Arsenal.
The over/under for goals scored is 3.5, with the under a -122 favourite.
