English Premier League Odds: Liverpool vs. Chelsea Prediction

League champion Liverpool has no trophies or records left to play for when they face a strong Chelsea team, who can clinch the Champions League for next season with a win at Anfield on Wednesday.  Start time is set for 3:15 p.m. ET with the Reds coming in as -104 favourites, the Blues as +235 underdogs and a draw going at +266 on the soccer odds.  The over-under for goals is set at 2.5 with the over a -182 favourite.

Liverpool has been average in their last five matches (two wins, two losses and one draw), which makes you wonder whether they are focused on the matches or the Premier League trophy celebration following Wednesday’s match, win or lose.

Manager Jurgen Klopp’s side has been uncharacteristically sloppy since clinching the Premier League title.  While the Reds have nothing left to play for in terms of records or trophies, they have been dominate at home.  They have not lost at home all season, but recently dropped their first points at home in a 1-1 draw with ninth place Burnley on July 11.

While it is still possible, it does not look likely Mohamed Salah’s 19 goals on the season will be enough to win his third-straight Premier League scoring title, as he trails Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy by four goals, with two games left.  This match could come down to Liverpool’s focus.  Are we going to see the side of Liverpool that has made them one of the best squads in the world, or is the smell of champagne too strong to not go on cruise control for the rest of the season?

Chelsea Odds and News

Chelsea is a team with a lot to play for and their recent record shows it.  The Blues have four wins and one loss in their last five matches and their 63-points puts them in third place, with the ability to clinch a Champions League spot for next year, with a win on Wednesday.

Olivier Giroud’s fourth goal in his last five matches helped Chelsea to a 3-1 FA Cup semifinal win over Manchester United on Sunday.  United is one of two teams trying to catch Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualifying.  The third place Blues lead Leicester City and United by one point, but hold a game in hand over Leicester.  With United and Leicester still needing to face each other one more time, the pressure is significantly lower for Chelsea in their final two matches, this season.

In their last five head-to-head meetings over all competitions, Chelsea and Liverpool are dead even, each with two wins and a draw.  The last time they faced off against each other ended in a 2-1 FA Cup win for the Blues in March.  Chelsea is coming into Wednesday in top form and certainly hoping to replicate their success from their last meeting with the League Champions.
