Liverpool is the top team in the EPL this season and barring some incredible miracle, is going to win the league title this season. They’re currently on 82 points while second-place Manchester City is on 57. On Sunday, Liverpool gets back in action when they visit Everton, who is currently in 12^th place. Both teams have been on a hiatus – along with the rest of the league – since early March. Can Everton make a game of this?

Everton has had a shaky season this year as they are 10-7-12 on the year with just 37 points. They have had a tough time on the defensive end of the pitch as they’ve allowed a whopping 46 goals in 29 games. No team that’s in front of them in the standings (and only one other team in the Top 15) has allowed this many goals.

Everton was a mixed bag heading into the hiatus as they had two wins, three draws and two losses in their final seven contests. They haven’t fared well against Liverpool this season, though, as they lost 1-0 and 5-2 in the two meetings so far.

The good news for Everton is that Liverpool is slightly more vulnerable on the road than at home. Liverpool is 15-0-0 at home compared to 12-1-1 on the road. Everton is similar as they are 7-4-3 at home with a +4 goal differential compared to 3-3-9 on the road with a -13 goal differential.

Liverpool has been by far and away the best team in the EPL this season. To put some perspective on it, Liverpool is 27-1-1 on the year. That means they’ve won 27 of their 29 contests so far and have lost just once all season. The draw came against Manchester United, who is fifth in the standings, but the lone loss came to Watford, who is 17^th. The 3-0 road loss to Watford was a bit bizarre as Liverpool hasn’t really had many – if any – performances like that this season but it’s possible they simply slept-walked through that game. That was their second-to-last game before the hiatus and they were already holding a massive lead in the standings.

Going down the stretch, the only question will be at what point does Liverpool stop caring? They’re all but assured a league title – even if they only play average the rest of the way – so bettors have to be careful. This probably isn’t the spot where they’re lackadaisical, though, as they’ve had plenty of rest before this contest.
