The result in this game could come down to the stronger motivation with Brighton desperately trying to avoid dropping to the relegation zone and Arsenal looking to rebound from a humiliating 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday.

There is a logjam at the bottom of the EPL table and Brighton sits in 15^th place, just two points out of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Arsenal is still alive for a Champions League spot, but they sit eight points behind Chelsea and must leapfrog five teams to take that spot.

Stuck in the middle of the EPL pack at ninth place, the Gunners hold a slim one-point lead over Burnley and Crystal Palace. Arsenal entered the league shutdown unbeaten in 2020 (four wins, four draws), but picked up their first loss of the year in brutal fashion on Wednesday, in a 3-0 loss to Manchester City, which saw defender David Luiz draw a red card and suspension for the Brighton match.

The fallout from the Manchester City game continues to get worse for Arsenal, with the announcement of a pair of ankle injuries to defender Pablo Mari, who is reportedly done for the season and midfielder Granit Xhaka, who may be able to return at some point. They join defenders Sokratis Papastathopoulos (thigh), Calum Chambers (knee), Cedric Soares (facial injury) and midfielder Lucas Torreira (ankle), on the injured list.
