The Danes dropped a 1-0 decision to Finland in their opener, and will be hard-pressed to muster much enthusiasm Thursday after Eriksen was revived by medics in a scary scene in their first tournament match.

It’s somewhat surprising that the Belgians aren’t bigger favourites than they are, if for no other reason than their dominant 3-0 triumph over Russia in Group B action last week. Belgium has not only won all 11 of its European Championship matches (qualification included), it has led at half-time in all 11 of those games. Denmark is listed at +316 to pull off the home upset on Thursday, while the draw is set at +221.
Sportsbooks see this one producing little offence, favoring the U2.5 play at -152 over the O2.5 option at +113. Denmark is a complete wild-card at this point given the events of its previous game, but we do know that Belgium has been one of the most prolific teams in the tourney dating back to the start of qualification. The visitors have scored two or more goals in each of their 11 matches in this event and averaged just under four goals per game in that span.

Several Danish players have admitted they’re still processing Eriken’s collapse due to cardiac arrest, and are likely to be somewhat distracted even though their teammate has since been stabilized. On the pitch, the loss of Eriksen is an enormous one for a Denmark team that needs to avoid a second straight defeat or risk being eliminated on home soil after just two matches. The teams last met in December 2020, with Belgium earning a wild 4-2 victory.

Focus will be an issue for the Belgians, as well, given the strong ties between players on both sides of the pitch. That said, Belgium have played like tournament favourites for the entire event, rolling over every opponent and extending that hot stretch with a dominant victory in Russia. Romelu Lukaku scored twice in that triumph and is a terrific play for an anytime goal in this one; expect plenty of action on Lukaku at +127 to find paydirt in Copenhagen.
