Champions League Final Prediction: Tottenham vs. Liverpool Odds
Two clubs from the same domestic league facing off in the Champions League final isn’t all that new. As recently as 2016, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid from the Spanish La Liga played in the final. They did in 2014 as well. A Spanish side has won the past five Champions League titles, with four of those going to Real Madrid. There have been six previous Champions League finals between sides from the same country, all since 2000.
Champions League Soccer Odds and Betting Analysis
There hasn’t been an all-English final since 2008 when Manchester United beat Chelsea in a penalty shootout. Saturday is the first-ever Champions League final for Tottenham Hotspur, while it’s the ninth for Liverpool. The Reds have won five titles, last in 2005. They were 3-1 losers in the 2018 final to Real Madrid.
Liverpool won both matches in the Premier League this year against Tottenham Hotspur by identical 2-1 scores. They last played on March 31 and the Reds won on a 90th minute own goal by Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld.
The Reds are -118 favourites at Sports Interaction for this match with Spurs at +274 and a regulation draw +297. The favoured final score is a 1-1 regulation draw at +542.
Liverpool
The Reds finished second in the Premier League standings, just a point behind Manchester City. Liverpool closed the season with a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton but were denied their first EPL title since 1990 because Manchester City also won on May 12. Liverpool staged a stunning comeback in the Champions League semifinals as they lost the first leg 3-0 at Barcelona but amazingly won the second 4-0 to claim the semifinal on aggregate.
It was truly one of the most shocking results in UCL and Liverpool (and Barca) history as the Reds become only the third team in the history of the European Cup/Champions League to come from three goals down after the first leg of a semifinal and advance. They did it without injured stars Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Both will play Saturday. Salah, Firmino and Sadio Mane lead the Reds with four goals each in this year’s Champions League action.
Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League standings and also required a miracle comeback to advance to the Champions League final. They lost the first leg at home 1-0 to Ajax Amsterdam and found themselves down 2-0 in the second half of the second leg yet Lucas Moura had a hat trick, including a goal with the final kick of the game in stoppage time. While the teams tied 3-3 on aggregate, Liverpool advanced on away goals.
Tottenham’s star is Harry Kane, and he’s going to play Saturday despite missing the past two months with an ankle injury. Kane led Spurs with 17 goals in 28 Premier League games and is tied for first with Moura on five Champions League goals despite playing three fewer games than Moura.
Champions League Final Predictions
Liverpool has lost just one of the teams’ last 14 meetings, winning nine of those. The Reds are the deeper side. They win 2-1, which is priced at +800.
