Canada vs Honduras: CONCACAF Gold Cup Odds, Prediction

Canada enter the tournament on the rebound after falling 5-4 to Ivory Coast on penalties following 90 minutes of scoreless play in last week’s Canadian Shield finale, snapping a two-match win streak. Honduras arrive in Vancouver on a four-match win streak after knocking off Antigua 2-0 in last week’s World Cup qualifying action and have now kept clean sheets in three straight matches across all competitions.

Canada leads the way as heavy -250 favourites on Tuesday’s Gold Cup odds while Honduras lag as +625 underdogs. The odds of this match finishing tied after regular time are pegged at +375 and -140 odds favour the total going OVER 2.5.

Canada vs Honduras Betting Analysis

Tuesday night’s matchup marks the first meeting between these CONCACAF rivals since Canada tallied a decisive 4-1 victory in Nations League action at BMO Field in March 2023. Overall, Canada has compiled a 2-2-1 win-draw-loss record over their past five dates with Honduras while limiting Los Catrachos to just four total goals over that stretch.

However, it is Honduras that holds the edge in recent dates with Canada at this tournament, going 2-1-1 in four meetings since 1991 and surrendering just one total goal over their past three Gold Cup clashes.

The Canadians have otherwise enjoyed regular success in group stage action at this tournament. The national side has advanced in each of their past four Gold Cup appearances including a march to the semi-finals in 2021.

Honduras was bounced in the group stage two years ago and has compiled just five total wins in five tournament appearances since making three straight semi-final appearances between 2009 and 2013.

Canada

Trailing only the United States and Mexico, Canada enter this year’s tournament as a +550 bet on the Gold Cup championship odds and massive -1600 chalk to finish atop the Group B table.

However, the squad must find ways to generate offence after turning in a disappointing performance last week versus Cote d’Ivoire. The squad has been blanked in two of four overall matches so far this year and have managed to score multiple goals in just three of six overall outings.

The absence of captain Alphonso Davies does not help matters. Davies will miss the tournament as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

That adds to the burden on Jonathan David to carry the squad’s offence. The Lille star potted a pair of goals in Canada’s 4-2 win over Ukraine earlier this month and offers value on the Gold Cup player props as a +250 bet to score Canada’s first goal on Tuesday.

Honduras

Honduras have effectively shut down inferior competition during their recent surge but are likely to be heavily tested by a Canadian side looking to redeem themselves for last week’s loss to Ivory Coast.

Pegged at No. 75 on the FIFA World Cup rankings, Honduras struggled on the international stage in recent years and saw their lone victory at the 2023 edition of this tournament come against Haiti.

The squad has received offensive contributions from across the lineup, but has enjoyed steady performances from Luis Palma, who has potted one goal and set up another in two caps this year.

Palma is joined by veteran Rommel Quioto, who scored twice in a 5-3 rout of Bermuda three months ago and a +360 bet to score anytime on Tuesday.

Prediction: Canada 2, Honduras 1
