Belgium vs. Russia Euro 2020: Odds and Betting Analysis
The books have Belgium as the favourite in a pivotal match for both sides. A loss makes the threat of a third-place finish in Group B much more real, with Denmark looking strong and having the benefit of playing all three of its group-stage matches in Copenhagen. These teams are intimately familiar with one another, having been placed in the same group in Euro 2020 qualifying; Belgium won both meetings by a combined count of 7-2.
With both sides capable of filling the net, it’s a mild surprise that the U2.5 play (-130) carries lower odds than the O2.5 option (-105). The last three meetings between the teams dating back to 2017 have averaged exactly five goals. Russia averaged a robust 3.3 goals in its 10 Euro 2020 qualifying matches, while Belgium scored 40 times in 10 games while rolling to an unbeaten record (with a plus-37 goal margin to boot).
Team Belgium
The Belgian roster reads like a who’s-who of international soccer powers – but one name sits firmly atop the list. Romelu Lukaku is the top goal-scorer all-time in Belgium’s rich international soccer history, and paced the club with seven goals in 10 qualifying matches. And while he scored just once in the two round-robin meetings with Russia, Edan Hazard’s poor recent form will almost certainly thrust Lukaku even further into the offensive spotlight Saturday.
Team Russia
The Russian roster for this event scarcely resembles the one that marched to the quarter-finals on home soil three years ago – but this team is still a threat. Artem Dzyuba is the linchpin of an offence that scored at will in the qualification round (against everyone but Belgium, that is). Yet, while there’s plenty of optimism on the front end, Russia has just two clean sheets in 11 games since the start of 2020 and could struggle to contain a star-studded B attack.
