Argentina vs. Mexico – Argentina Will End Mexico's World Cup Dream
Mexico will look to record one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history when El Tri takes on Argentina in the second round.
Mexico looks to break jinx
Since 1994 Mexico has managed to make the last 16 in every World Cup. This year marks the fifth straight tournament that El Tri has made the second round but on each of those previous occasions Mexico failed to make the quarter finals. The last time Mexico reached the last 8 was in 1986, when it hosted the World Cup. A 2-0 win over France put El Tri in a good position to set up an easy path to the quarter finals but defeat to Uruguay means they have to take a hard road. We’ll get to their opponents in a moment but don’t write off El Tri just yet. They have shown plenty of variety in their play and can do enough to frustrate Argentina for at least half the game. I like Mexico to keep it close until the break so back a draw at half time at +130 with Sports Interaction.
Argentina comes loaded with quality
With three wins from three in the group stages any fears that Diego Maradona would oversee a disaster in the World Cup were allayed. While other big nations like France and Italy failed to make the second round, Argentina put together three assured performances to make it to the knockout stages and keep World Cup betting fans happy.

We saw just how diverse Argentina can be in the opening three games. This is a team which can mix up the way it attacks with no shortage of offensive threats on the bench to pile on the pressure late in a game.
Maradona’s time to shine
Diego Maradona proved what he could do on the pitch in a decorated, if controversial, career. Now we are going to see if Maradona the manager can be equally effective. With England or Germany as possible quarter final opponents I expect Maradona to deploy a patient style against Mexico. This will allow Argentina to record a dominant if low scoring win of around 2-0 or 3-0. In the process he will be able to keep his stars fresh and hungry for the bigger challenges awaiting them. Unfortunately for Mexico this means that yet again they will enter the knockout stages with hope only to fall at the first hurdle. Back Argentina to win and set up a pulsating last 8 tie.
