Alphonso Davies

Davies has been out of action since tearing the ACL in his right knee while playing for Canada against the United States in March.

The 25-year-old has been training on his own before re-joining Bayern practices.

Davies’ return to practice comes a month after Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany said he expects the Canadian star to return to game action at some point in December.

“It’s definitely looking good,” Kompany said on Oct. 17. “I hoped he’d be back at the beginning of January, but as things stand now, it might be a bit sooner. If he can play a few games in December, then everyone will have done a wonderful job. If things continue to go well, then we might have a very, very fit Alphonso Davies back by then.”

Davies was optimistic he was close to returning in an interview posted on Bayern’s website.

“I’m running and training well,” Davies said. “I just need to get a bit more muscle mass on my right leg. When the doctors told me how long it could take after the injury, I thought: ‘Wow, that’s going to be a long journey.’ But it’s all looking good now.”

Playing without Davies, the Canadian men’s national team will be back in action on Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. when they play Venezuela in friendly.

Canada continues to prepare for the 2026 World Cup as one of three co-hosts, along with the United States and Mexico.

While Canada is a heavy +15,000 long shot to win the World Cup, there is a belief they have a squad capable of advancing past the group stage for the first time ever.

Canada boasts a strong lineup of players who are having success with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Davies (Bayern), Jonathan David (Juventus), Tajon Buchanan (Villarreal) and Cyle Larin (Mallorca/Feyenoord).

The 2026 World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19, with 16 cities hosting matches in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
