New York City FC vs. Inter Miami MLS Preview and Prediction

Inter Miami and New York City FC are back with a boiling rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference finals that saw Miami through to the final. This year, New York tops the standings as Miami follows close behind, making this matchup the biggest of the season yet.

Prepare for matchday five of the MLS to kick off this weekend, and watch Inter Miami take on New York City FC this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

New York City FC vs. Inter Miami MLS Odds and Betting Trends

The Eastern squads meet for the 15th time in MLS history; New York City leads with seven wins over Miami’s three (four draws). Up until the Herons’ recent dominance in the last two games and victory in the conference semifinals last November, the sides concluded four straight draws from 2023 to 2025 (three 1-1 ties). This fixture has never ended scoreless, with the last three straight meetings seeing four goals or more.

NYCFC are the slight +120 home favourites on the MLS odds, while the challengers of Miami are set at +200 underdogs. A draw stands at +245 with an Under 3.5 goals expected at -170, although the Over 3.5 is never out of contention when these two sides play.

Inter Miami

Last year’s champions are content with third place in the East but hungry for more. Leo Messi’s side bounced back from a season-opening loss with two straight wins against Orlando City and D.C. United, but have since kicked off three consecutive draws in all competitions. The Herons exited the Champions Cup Round of 16 to Nashville SC only on away goals, after drawing the first leg 0-0 and the second leg 1-1. Their scoreless draw to Charlotte in the MLS last weekend was highly uncharacteristic, with Miami showcasing just six goals so far after achieving 81 last season.

Team captain Lionel Messi leads the charge in anytime goalscoring at +105 odds with three to his name already this season, and a goal in his last match against Nashville in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Mexican international German Berterame follows up the Argentine at +280 as he looks for his first of the season, while Luis Suarez brings up the rear at +280.

New York City FC

New York City FC is one of five teams without a loss in the MLS, and they lead the Eastern Conference with 10 points and 11 goals in just four games. They kicked off the season with a draw in their away opener, but answered promptly in the following weeks with three back-to-back wins, 10 goals, and just two goals allowed. They are the team to beat so far this year, winning both of their home games by two goals or more, along with four goals per game on average at home. They will almost certainly exploit Miami’s back line tonight, with the question being, how well can they defend against a potential onslaught?

Nicolas Fernandez is one of the few outscoring Messi so far, as he enters this match priced to score at +155 with four goals under his belt already. Hannes Wolf will look for his second of the year as he’s set to score at +200, along with teammate Seymour Reid at +190. The Pigeons have a variety of offensive options along with their top goalscorer, including players like Talles Magno (+210) and Zidane Yanez (+220) as well, giving them a likely upper hand at home in this one.

MLS Prediction: Who Will Win New York City FC vs. Inter Miami?

Plenty of times, we’ve seen Miami’s performance based on how well Lionel Messi plays, and with the adjustments to the team after losing Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, the Herons haven’t quite found a rhythm.

NYCFC, on the other hand, is bathing in full confidence and has only allowed three goals so far, the second-lowest tally and highest GD (+8) in the East. The side now enters their third home game in a row after seeing two comfortable wins back to back, with Nicolas Fernandez on a scoring streak with three goals in his last two games.

With all factors considered, this one’s likely to be a narrow NYCFC 3-2 home victory, and while Leo Messi could have something to say about that, the Boys in Blue are looking mighty ripe this season.
