Real Betis vs. Sevilla La Liga Preview and Prediction
The 26th match week of the Spanish La Liga takes off this weekend as fifth-place Real Betis takes on 12th-place Sevilla as they aim to keep their spot to qualify for next year’s Champions League. Sevilla may be at mid-table, but they are five points away from a looming relegation zone, so any number of points could be a difference maker. As for Betis, a win puts them one step closer to catching Atletico, but they’ve got a six-point gap to close on fourth place at the moment, which will most certainly be challenging.
Real Betis vs. Sevilla La Liga Odds and Betting Trends
The longtime El Gran Derbi dates back a long time to 1965, and is one of the fiercest rivalries in European football. Sevilla has won nearly half the matches (61), with Betis only recently on the climb after winning their last two straight meetings in March and November 2025. Leading up to Sevilla’s last victory in October 2024, the fixture showcased four straight ties, three of them 1-1 scorelines.
Both teams’ title hopes are long gone, but Betis will want to qualify for next year’s Champions League, as Sevilla will simply want to scrape out as many points as possible. Real Betis are -120 home favourites on the La Liga odds in this one, challenged by the +320 underdogs of Sevilla, with a draw set for +265. Considering the recent scoreline history, under 2.5 goals could be enticing at -125 for those who like siding with trends.
Real Betis
Betis finished seventh in the 2023/24 season, sixth in the 2024/25 season, and are now on track to finish fifth in the 2025/26 season, showing marginal improvement over the last three years. They have a bearable goal differential of +10 this season, and are one of five teams to score 40 goals or more after 25 games. They finished in the top four in the Europa League to qualify for the Round of 16, and even after exiting the Copa del Rey quarters 5-0 to Atletico, they bounced back and defeated them 1-0 in La Liga the following game. They’ve gone 3-1-1 in their last five games, only allowing five goals in their last five straight Spanish league games.
Forward Cucho Hernandez has been a beast for Los Verdiblancos, scoring three goals in his last five matches, reaching eight goals on the season. Both Pablo Fornals and Antony boast six goals apiece in the league, with four and five assists respectively, followed by Abde Ezzalzouli with five goals. Antony and Ezzalzouli also rep seven goals combined in the Europa League so far, proving Betis’ offence to be exceptionally dangerous this year.
Sevilla
Sevilla’s main issue this season has been allowing too many goals without an answer, leading to 12 losses so far this season, the third-highest loss total in La Liga. Los Palanganas have seen four shutout losses in their last 10 games, winning just two of their five most recent, including their last match, 1-0 to Getafe last Sunday. They’ve only scored one goal per game in their last four straight, which is part of the reason they’ve found it difficult to pull away from the bottom half of the table.
The team’s top goalscorer, Akor Adams, is really the side’s only main threat this season, with six goals in 20 games. Midfielder Djibril Sow and forward Isaac Romero will most definitely need to ramp up efforts for this one, as they have just four and three goals respectively so far this season, meaning not even the three top team goal scorers account for half the team’s goals (32).
La Liga Prediction: Who Will Win Real Betis vs. Sevilla?
This matchup is especially challenging to win every year, but given Betis’ performance this year in both La Liga and Europa League, they are the deserved favourites. They’re home this weekend and won their last home game against Sevilla in 2025, while scoring in every La Liga game since December 15.
Sevilla look particularly weak this season, with only two wins in their last 10 games and both won by a single goal. Their results are too close for comfort, and they have trouble outscoring easier competition, with three 1-1 draws in their last six games.
I’m expecting a 2-1 Real Betis victory, given Los Verdiblancos focus and determination this season, and their plethora of offensive talent. Given the derby situation, Sevilla should be able to find the net, although it’s unlikely to be enough.
