Group H is wide open after the first round of group stage contests. Spain and Uruguay are still heavy favourites to finish 1-2 in the group, but Saudi Arabia and, surprisingly, Cape Verde, showed they won’t cower against those favoured foes.

Now, Uruguay makes a bid for the group, and Cape Verde looks to extend this fantasy when the two sides meet in Miami on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.

Uruguay had to fight back for a 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia, with Maxi Araujo’s 80th-minute equalizer preserving a point and keeping La Celeste out of the group cellar.

Cape Verde posted the shock result of the tournament so far when 40-year-old goalkeeper Josimar Vozinha made seven saves to preserve the shutout and preserve a scoreless draw against Spain.

Uruguay (4-2-3-1): Muslera, Vina, Olivera, Caceres, Varela, Bentancur, Ugarte, Araujo, Vinas, Valverde, Nunez

Uruguay FIFA World Cup Odds and News

Regardless of its draw with Saudi Arabia, La Celeste still have the second-best odds to win Group H at +350. That also puts them at -195 to finish runners-up in the group.

Just like the Spaniards, Uruguay is going to rue its missed opportunities. Coach Marcelo Bielsa’s side peppered the Green Falcons all match, finishing with a 10-3 shot advantage.

Manuel Ugarte hit the post on the hour before Araujo’s equalizer in the 80th minute. Brian Rodriguez, who came on in the 81st minute for Araujo curled an effort wide, while Nicolas de la Cruz and Federico Valverde both tested Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais late.

The Uruguayan side is in good form. It just needs to finish better.

Cabo Verde FIFA World Cup Odds and News

Cape Verde has most likely still not descended from Cloud 9. No matter what happens in the next two matches, a side that would not be here but for the expansion to 48 countries held the World Cup favourites to a scoreless draw.

Now comes reality. Coach Pedro Leitao Brito’s side cannot be expected to keep another highly-ranked opponent off the scoreboard, so its only hope is to steal a goal or two on the counter-attack against a Uruguayan side that is prone to gaps in its defence when it presses high.

Cape Verde is now -110 to advance to the knockout stage.

Uruguay vs. Cabo Verde Player Odds and Props

Darwin Nunez and Federico Vinas are the odds-on favourites to score an anytime goal at +125, but we like Valverde at +137 to score or assist on a goal on Sunday.

Vozinha made seven saves against Spain. Uruguay put 10 shots on goal against Saudi Arabia. That makes Vozinha +500 to make 6 or more saves quite appealing. You can also get him at +100 for 4 or more stops, or +240 for 5 or more saves.

World Cup 2026 Bracket and Futures

Uruguay is now -400 to qualify for the knockout stage, while Cape Verde has been surpassed by Saudi Arabia as far as best odds to finish bottom of the group. It is +130, while the Green Falcons are -115.

Uruguay vs. Cabo Verde Score Prediction

Is this the Uruguay that reached the quarterfinals in Russia in 2018, or the one that exited after the group stage in Qatar four years ago?

No matter on Sunday, as Bielsa’s side pick up a much-needed three points with a 3-0 win over Cape Verde.
