Qatar FIFA World Cup Odds and News
Qatar has struggled in the lead up to the World Cup, failing to win in six straight matches, including a 1-0 defeat against the Republic or Ireland in a friendly at the end of May. The Maroons followed that loss with a 1-1 draw against El Salvador in their final World Cup tuneup game on June 6.
Qatar’s attacking unit runs through the trio of Akram Afif, Yusuf Abdurisag and Edmilson Junior. Afif has notched 39 goals for his country, while Edmilson is still searching for his first international tally. Mahmud Abunada is expected to start in goal, with Pedro Miguel and Boualem Khoukhi anchoring the defence.
Switzerland FIFA World Cup Odds and News
Switzerland has high hopes for this tournament as they look to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since they hosted in 1954. A-Team is in strong form with only one loss in their last 16 matches. They settled for a 1-1 draw against Australia in their final World Cup tuneup game on June 6, which followed a 4-1 drubbing of Jordan at the end of May.
Switzerland’s attack is a little more open to internal competition when it comes to starters. Breel Embolo, who has 24 goals for the national team, is an option to start, while Zeki Amdouni should also get a look through the middle. Overall, this is an experienced lineup with the likes of veterans Manuel Akanji, Ricardo Rodriguez and Granit Xhaka.
Qatar vs. Switzerland Player Odds and Props
Breel Embolo Switzerland first goalscorer (+240): I’m targeting Breel Embolo for this first game as I think Switzerland will want to lean on a veteran player who has produced for the national team in the past. I’ll take Embolo to score first for the Swiss like he did in 2022.
Akram Afif 2+ shots (+120): Sticking with the theme of veteran leadership, I’ll circle Akram Afif to produce at least a couple of shots for Qatar.
World Cup 2026 Bracket and Futures
While the Swiss should win Group B, they remain significant long shots at +6600 to win the World Cup. I see Switzerland beating Qatar and Bosnia and Herzegovina before drawing Canada, so I also like A-Team to finish the group stage with seven points (+250).
Technically, Qatar doesn’t have the longest odds to win the World Cup, but they may as well have them as they are listed at +100,000. There is, however, a path for them to qualify from Group B (+300). Qatar will be in good shape if they keep things close against Switzerland then win and/or draw against Bosnia and injury-plagued Canada.
Qatar vs. Switzerland Score Prediction
Final score prediction: Qatar 1 | Switzerland 2
It would be surprising if Switzerland doesn’t win this group and it will be shocking if they don’t win this game. Don’t overthink this one and go with the superior team.
