Norway made its first World Cup appearance since 1998 as Erling Haaland and his teammates handled Iraq, 4-1. Senegal, making its third straight World Cup appearance, held the tournament favourites France in check for more than two-thirds of the contest, but still fell 3-1.

Norway has a chance to clinch a spot in the knockout stage, while Senegal needs at least a point when the two meet in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Monday at 8:00 PM ET.

Manchester City’s Haaland had a first-half brace, and Leo Østigard slammed home a 76-minute set-piece header as part of a comprehensive 4-1 victory against overmatched Iraq.

The Senegalese have reached the knockout stage in 2 of 3 previous appearances, including a trip to the Round of 16 in Qatar four years ago. They are now in a hole after Kylian Mbappe and Les Bleus solved their defence for three goals in the final 25 minutes.

The total is set at 2.5 goals, with an even -110 opportunity to the Over or Under. If you see more of an offensive clash, as we do, you can take the Over on 3.5 goals at around +245.

Norway FIFA World Cup odds and news

The Norwegians have been a popular dark horse pick to go deep in this World Cup. They have the ninth-best odds to win it all at +3000.

The sweet spot for Haaland and company right now is between the Round of 16, at -160, and the quarterfinals, at +200. Norway advanced to the Round of 16 in its first World Cup appearance in 1938, and its last appearance 60 years later.

Haaland is already a world-renowned superstar, but now he gets to see his name on the marquee with the big boys in the grandest tournament of them all.

He has the fourth-best odds, behind Argentina’s Lionel Messi, Mbappe, and England’s Harry Kane, to win the Golden Boot at +1000. The crazy thing is, all four of those studs recorded at least a brace in the first round of group stage matches.

Norway excels at magnifying its strengths and minimizing its weaknesses, but Senegal could exploit them on the counter.

Senegal FIFA World Cup odds and news

Sadio Mane, Ismaila Sarr, and a relentless defence showed well against the French before relenting in the final third of the contest.

Senegal’s high press and quick transitions play better against a Norwegian side that can sometimes get caught flat-footed thanks to its direct attacking style.

Securing a point on Monday is of the utmost importance, but Senegal still has favourable odds to qualify for the knockout stage at -200. If you think they can slip ahead of Norway in the group table, they are currently +275 to finish as Group I runners-up.

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is the x-factor on Monday. The former Chelsea and Stade Rennais netminder made five stops against France, and he will need to be ready for some powerful shots off the foot of Haaland and the heads of multiple Norwegians.

Norway vs. Senegal player odds and props

Haaland is obviously the best bet to score an anytime goal at -110, but he is so good at tallying the first goal in a match, and he is listed at +340 to do so on Monday.

Alexander Sorloth, who scored 20 goals across all competitions for Atletico Madrid, is another solid option for an anytime goal at +210.

Sadio Mane, a consistent scoring machine through the years, is the top anytime goal option for Senegal at +250.

Mendy is the best Senegalese bet, however. He is +145 to make 4 or more saves, and you can more than double that with a +330 option at 5 or more saves.

World Cup 2026 bracket and futures

Norway is listed at +275 to win Group I, well behind France (-375) at this point. The Norwegians are the Group I runners-up favourites at -150.

Although Senegal is -200 to qualify for the knockout stage, if you are lacking confidence in those prospects, you can also get them at +140 to be eliminated during the group stage.

They are also a +140 bet to get knocked out in the Round of 32, and +450 to get eliminated in the Round of 16.

Norway vs. Senegal score prediction

Senegal is going to push to at least get a point ahead of its group stage final against Iraq, so a 2-2 draw sounds smart here.

However, we are riding the Norwegian hype train and believe Haaland will score another goal, if not more. Take Norway to win a shootout over Senegal, 3-2.
