The Tricolor opened the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup with a convincing 2-0 victory over South Africa while South Korea needed a second-half rally to overcome an early deficit on their way to a narrow 2-1 win over Czechia.

However, Mexico holds a clear advantage in head-to-head action, compiling a 3-1-0 win-draw-loss record in their past four dates with the Taegeuk Warriors including a 2-1 victory in their most recent World Cup clash eight years ago.

Mexico FIFA World Cup odds and news

With their win over Bafana Bafana, Mexico have now won seven straight overall on home turf, and have outscored opponents by a massive 17-2 margin while compiling a 6-2-0 record in eight matches across all competitions so far in 2026. Pegged at No. 13 on the FIFA rankings, the Tricolor is also undefeated in seven all-time group stage contests as a host nation, keeping clean sheets five times over that stretch, but were forced to settle for a hard fought 2-2 draw when they last faced South Korea in and international friendly played in Nashville last September.

South Korea FIFA World Cup odds and news

South Korea overcame a somewhat slow start against Czechia with a tremendous second half, wearing down the Czechs while dominating possession, and making up for a lacklustre first-half performance that elicited boos from supports at halftime. LAFC star Son Heung-min sparked the attack, recording six shots on target in his pursuit of his fourth career World Cup goal for the 25th ranked Koreans. Hwang In-beom scored the tying goal and set up the match winner in the 80th minute.

Mexico vs. South Korea player odds and props

Raul Jimenez (MEX) to score (+170): Jimenez struggled down the stretch in Premier League play, failing to score while seeing limited action in his final six appearance of the season with Fulham. However, the 35-year-old remains the most capable goalscorer on this El Tri squad, which he has demonstrated with markers in each of his past two international caps, and with another chance to perform in front of hometown fans, expect him to rise to the occasion on  Thursday night in Guadalajara.

Son Heung-min (KOR) 2+ shots on target (+200): As South Africa quickly discovered, generating scoring chances against Mexico is a massive challenge. However, World Cup veteran Son has generated five shots on goal in his past three appearances with the national side, and with Mexican defender Cesar Montes on the shelf after picking up a red card, the 33-year-old offers good value on the World Cup player props to tally multiple shots on goal in Guadalajara.

World Cup 2026 bracket and futures

Mexico entered the World Cup as the favourites to finish atop the Group A table, and with their big win over South Africa, that position has been solidified with the Tricolor now perched as -190 chalk on the Group A futures. Accordingly, the squad also leads the way as a gaudy -10000 bet to advance out of the group stage. But with only so many chances to play in front of their fans, Mexico remains squarely positioned as a -6600 long shot to claim their first ever World Cup title.

South Korea did not hurt their odds of finishing first on the Group A table with their victory over Czechia, and now trail only Mexico as a +175 second favourite, and as a -1666 bet to advance to the round of 32, with Son emerging as the side’s bet bet to be top goalscorer at +10000.

Mexico vs. South Korea score prediction

Mexico can expect to face a more skilled and more disciplined opponent in South Korea. The Taegeuk Warriors should also know what to expect out of the Mexican side, which they have faced twice previously at the World Cup and three times overall since 2018. The Koreans will bring a more dangerous offence and far more discipline than Bafana Bafana, likely making this a nailbiter that won’t be settled until the late stages.

Best bet: Both teams to score (+105)

Final score prediction: Mexico 2 | South Korea 1
