France is looking to reach its third straight World Cup Final and win it for the third overall time. They bring a stacked squad to the states, and nothing less than a trip to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19th will do.

Senegal, making its fourth World Cup appearance, and third straight, famously dispatched the defending champion French in their 2002 debut.

Coach Papa Thiaw’s talented, aggressive, and physical side, ranked 14th in the world, will look to make history again against a French side looking to make coach Didier Deschamps’ swansong a memorable one.

The total is set at 2.5 goals, with an even -110 opportunity to the Over or Under.

France vs. Senegal predicted starting XI lineups

France (4-2-3-1): Maignan, Kounde, Saliba, Upamecano, Hernandez, Tchouameni, Rabiot, Olise, Dembele, Doue, Mbappe

Senegal (4-3-3): Mendy, Diatta, Koulibaly, Niakhate, Jakobs, Gueye, P. Sarr, Camara, I. Sarr, Mane, Jackson

France FIFA World Cup odds and news

The French (+475) and Spain (+450) might as well be co-favourites to win the championship. In Kylian Mbappe, Deschamps has the reigning World Cup Golden Boot winner, who had 42 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid this season.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Ousmane Dembele, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, had 18 combined goals as PSG repeated as Ligue 1 and Champions League titleists.

Michael Olise led the Bundesliga with 19 assists while scoring 15 goals for Bayern Munich. He just had a hat trick in a 3-1 victory over Northern Ireland in a World Cup warm-up on Monday in Lille.

Aurelian Tchouameni and Adrien Rabiot solidify the middle, while Arsenal’s William Saliba and Munich’s Dayot Upamecano man the back line, with Barcelona’s Jules Kounde and Al Hilal’s Theo Hernandez on the outside.

Good luck, Senegal!

Senegal FIFA World Cup odds and news

Thiaw’s side matches up well physically and on defence. It’s offensively where Senegal could be comparatively lacking.

And that’s saying something since the Senegalese have Sadio Mane, who had a successful spell with Liverpool, up top with Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.

Senegal reached the quarterfinals in its 2002 debut, and defeated host Qatar and Ecuador before bowing out in the Round of 16 to England four years ago. They can get out of this group, especially with the top eight third-place sides advancing.

In fact, Senegal is -230 to advance out of the group stage. Getting even just a point on Monday would go a long way to achieving that goal.

France vs. Senegal player odds and props

Mbappe is -110 to score anytime. Olise (+175), Dembele (+175), and PSG’s Desire Doue (+175) all have favourable odds to find the back of the net as well.

Mane is +400 to score anytime for Senegal.

World Cup 2026 bracket and futures

France is listed at -215 to win Group I, with Senegal at third-best +750. The French are +275 to reach the final, and +130 to reach the semifinals, while Senegal is +220 to advance to the Round of 16.

With Norway and Iraq also in the group, Senegal has a very good chance of finishing second.

France vs. Senegal score prediction

Senegal has greatly improved since that 2002 meeting, but so has France. Look for Deschamps’ side to win its group stage opener for the fourth consecutive World Cup, 3-1, over Senegal.
