Spain vs. Cabo Verde – Group H

Location: Atlanta Stadium, Atlanta, Georgie

Time: 12 p.m. ET

How to watch in Canada: TSN, TSN+

Spain, a co-favourite to win the World Cup along with France, begins the tournament as a massive favourite over Cabo Verde.  La Roja is looking for a second World Cup after winning in South Africa in 2010, while Cabo Verde has already been successful just by qualifying for their first ever World Cup.

It all starts with Lamine Yamal for Spain. The 18-year-old starred for Barcelona this season with 16 goals in 26 La Liga starts and he’ll be central to a Spanish attack that has tallied 28 goals over its last 10 international games.

Spain vs. Cabo Verde betting pick: Lamine Yamal anytime goal (-125)

Parlay pick: Lamine Yamal anytime goal + match result – Spain + game total Over 3.5 (+165)

Belgium vs. Egypt – Group G

Location: Seattle stadium, Seattle, Washington

Time: 3 p.m. ET

How to watch in Canada: TSN, TSN+

Belgium is a sizeable favourite to win Group G as they look to avenge a surprising group stage exit at Qatar 2022. This is just the third World Cup appearance for Egypt since 1990 and they haven’t advanced out of the group stage since 1934.

I’m circling Romelu Lukaku in this game. Lukaku had an injury-plagued Serie A campaign this season, but he has five World Cup goals in his career and he’ll be leading a Red Devils attack that has filled the net with 37 goals over its last 10 international games.

Belgium vs. Egypt betting pick: Romelu Lukaku anytime goal (+115)

Parlay pick: Romelu Lukaku anytime goal + Lukaku 2+ shots on target + Belgium – 1st half result (+360)

Saudi Arabia vs. Uruguay – Group H

Location: Miami Stadium, Miami, Florida

Time: 6 p.m. ET

How to watch in Canada: TSN, TSN+

Saudi Arabia is playing in their third straight World Cup and they’ll aim for a repeat of 2022 when they opened the tournament with a shocking upset win over eventual champion Argentina. Winners of the inaugural World Cup in 1930, Uruguay has reached the quarterfinals in two of the last four tournaments.

There’s a lot of question marks in this game. Uruguay hasn’t played any warm-up matches for the tournament and they’ll be missing some key starters, including Giorgian de Arrascaeta. On the flip side, Saudi Arabia just changed managers with Georgios Donis taking over from Herve Renard, so it’s hard to know what to expect. I’m counting on a low scoring, evenly matched, game.

Saudi Arabia vs. Uruguay betting pick: Draw (+333)

Parlay pick: Draw + game total Under 2.5 (+360)

Iran vs. New Zealand – Group G

Location: Los Angeles Stadium, Los Angeles, California

Time: 9 p.m. ET

How to watch in Canada: TSN, TSN+

There’s a sizeable gap between Belgium and the rest of Group G, but the second automatic spot in the knockout round is wide open. This will be Iran’s fourth straight World Cup appearance, while it’s New Zealand’s first since 2010. Neither team has ever reached the knockout round.

Mehdi Taremi is a huge reason why Iran is favoured to win this game. Taremi, who had two goals in three games at the World Cup in 2022, had 10 goals in 24 games for Olympiacos this season, including two in 10 Champions League games. He should capitalize against a New Zealand side that has allowed 18 goals in its last 10 international games.

Iran vs. New Zealand betting pick: Mehdi Taremi anytime goal (+175)

Parlay pick: Mehdi Taremi anytime goal + 1st half result – Iran + match result – Iran (+425)
