FIFA World Cup co-host Canada gets the action started on Day 2 of the tournament as they prepare to face Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium, AKA BMO Field.

Canada earned an automatic berth into the World Cup as a co-host, but this is also believed to be the strongest roster ever fielded as they seek a spot in the knockout round for the first time.

Bosnia is back in the World Cup for the second time and first since 2014 when they earned a win in group play, but did not qualify for the knockout round.

Canada FIFA World Cup Odds and News

Canada qualifying for a World Cup felt like a win in 2022, but that isn’t the case this year. Despite never recording a win or draw at two previous World Cups, Canada is expected to at least qualify for the knockout round.

Les Rouges will be without their best player for the opener, however, as captain Alphonso Davies is still recovering from a hamstring injury, although there is a good chance he will be available against Qatar and Switzerland. Moise Bombito remains on the roster, but he likely won’t play on Friday as he continues to recover from a broken leg suffered in October.

Even without Davies, Canada has looked sharp without suffering a loss in 2026 as they ride an eight-match unbeaten streak into the World Cup. Defensive strength has led to Canada securing six clean sheets on their current unbeaten streak.

Bosnia and Herzegovina FIFA World Cup Odds and News

Bosnia has already shown great resiliency and toughness to get to this point, outlasting stronger nations in Wales and Italy to qualify for the World Cup. The Dragons have also proven they can be dangerous in their last World Cup appearance as they missed out on the group stage by just one point in 2014.

This is a largely veteran roster that also enters the tournament unbeaten in eight straight games, including two playoff wins on penalties. Bosnia has been defensively stout, allowing a goal or fewer in six straight outings and not giving up a goal in the first half of any of those games.

Like Canada, Bosnia has some injury concerns. Haris Tabakovic continues to deal with an ankle injury suffered near the end of his club season and likely won’t play Friday. Edin Dzeko missed practice Tuesday because of a shoulder injury and his status is in doubt against Canada.

Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina Player Odds and Props

Jonathan David anytime goal (+150): Jonathan David will be the most dangerous threat in this game. He’s already Canada’s all-time leading goalscorer with 39 international tallies and the offence will run through him with Davies on the shelf.

Cyle Larin 3+ shots (-120): Cyle Larin beat out Tani Oluwaseyi for the opportunity to ride shotgun with Jonathan David against Bosnia and I fully expect him to take advantage and make it count.

World Cup 2026 Bracket and Futures

Both these teams are obviously massive long shots to win the World Cup at +15,000 for Canada and +25,000 for Bosnia. However, while neither team has made the knockout round before, oddsmakers expect that to change as Canada is -800 to advance and Bosnia is -250.

Switzerland (-140) is the favourite to win Group B, followed by Canada (+175), Bosnia (+600) and Qatar (+3300). Even if the Swiss win the group, Canada and Bosnia could also move on as the top two teams in each group and the eight best third-place teams all advance to the knockout round.

Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina Score Prediction

Missing Alphonso Davies is massive, but Canada hasn’t played with the Bayern Munich star since he suffered an ACL injury in March 2025 and they have still managed to find ways to win. This Canadian team is deeper than one player and they will show that with their first-ever World Cup victory on Friday.
