Jennifer Jones and her curling team’s perfect performance in winning the gold medal at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics won’t soon be forgotten now that Winnipeg is naming a street after Team Jones.

Winnipeg mayor Sam Katz announced Tuesday that the city was renaming the street that crosses the front of the St. Vital Curling Club “Honouray Team Jones Way.” St. Vital Curling Club has been Jones’ home rink for years and the city plans a ceremony to announce the renaming of the street at a later date.

“Winnipeggers have always been extremely supportive of Team Jones and are very proud of the team’s record-breaking Olympic achievement,” Katz told reporters. “All of the members of the team are ambassadors for Winnipeg and the sport of curling and it is fitting to honour them with Team Jones Way.”

Jones and teammates Jill Officer, Kaitlyn Lawes, and Dawn McEwen became the first women’s Olympic curling team to ever finish the tournament  with a perfect record on their road to gold.

“We’re going to have that little OR — Olympic record — next to our name forever,” Jones told reporters. “It’s one of those records that can only be tied and never broken. We’ll always be remembered.”

Jones’ rink captured its 11th victory of the Olympics with a 6-3 victory over Sweden in the gold medal game.
