Team Canada Day 3

Canada enters Day 3 with two of their best bets to win gold. Here’s Canada’s top medal contenders to highlight on Monday (all times Eastern):

Summer McIntosh, Women’s 400-metre individual medley (5 a.m. heats, 2:30 p.m. final)

McIntosh is widely expected to be Canada’s breakout star for the Paris Olympics and she’s off to a great start with a silver medal in the 400-metre freestyle on opening day. She’s back in the water on Monday for the 400-metre individual medley, an event she set a new world record in at the Canadian swim trials earlier this year.

Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens, Men’s synchronized 10-metre platform (5 a.m. final)

The Canadian diving team became the first men’s team to win a medal in the event for Canada at the world championships when they took home bronze in 2022. They also have silver medals from the Commonwealth Games and the Pan American Games. The duo claimed bronze earlier today for Canada’s third medal in Paris.

Christa Deguchi, Judo (first fight 5:12 a.m., medal fights 10:48 a.m.)

Deguchi beat out Tokyo bronze-medallist Jessica Klimkait for Canada’s lone Olympic spot in the 57-kg event. Deguchi won silver at this year’s worlds and gold at last year’s worlds. She earned a bye to the round of 16 because she is the top-seeded fighter and she is set to compete for a medal following her semifinal matchup against France’s Sarah Leonie Cysique.
