Minnesota Wild vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
A 5-1-1 stretch after the All-Star break has put the Wild right back in the playoff mix, sitting at 58 points and four points out of the final Wild-Card spot. Last month’s 16-game win streak boosted Edmonton in the competitive Pacific Division race, one that the Oilers finds themselves in third place with Vegas right ahead and L.A. right behind.
For both clubs, Friday’s the first leg of a back-to-back spot, and a chance to avenge some tough defeats in their last outings. Minnesota came off a 10-7 win over Vancouver on Monday only to go down 6-3 in Winnipeg the next night. Edmonton suffered a 6-5 overtime loss to Boston on Wednesday — so the goals are coming in every direction around Minnesota and Edmonton.
Puck drop at Rogers Place is at 9 p.m. ET with the Oilers a -190 moneyline favourite and the total at 6.5 on the NHL odds.
Wild vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
The Wild have been a somewhat surprising nemesis for the Oilers, beating Edmonton in nine of their 11 meetings. Minnesota’s also come out on top in 15 of their last 20 visits to Edmonton. Friday decides the season series between the Wild and Oilers. The Wild got the upper-hand with a 7-4 win on October 24 but the Oilers bounced back on December 8 by winning 4-3. The home team has won each contest between these teams this year.
The over has hit in five straight Oilers games. In seven straight Oilers games, the winning team has scored at least four goals. Minnesota’s coming off a 10-7 win and 6-3 loss, so it’s safe to say both clubs will be aiming to shore up the defensive side of things.
Minnesota Wild
The Wild have gone up against western Canada in back-to-back outings and faced drastically different results. Monday’s 10-7 win saw the Wild hit franchise records in goals in a game (10) and period (seven), and their six goals in 5:45 of game time was the fastest in the last 25 years. Allowing five goals in 50 minutes against Winnipeg the following night spoiled what was shaping up to be a special week and run, as prior to the loss to Winnipeg the Wild had points in six straight games.
Joel Eriksson Ek and Kirill Kaprizov had three-goals and three-assists each on Monday in a winning effort, and the duo combined for a goal Tuesday when Eriksson Ek fed Kaprizov. Keep an eye out for Minnesota’s star duo to stay hot Friday night.
Edmonton Oilers
Every since their 16-game win streak last month, getting at least a point is the expectation every time the Oilers take the ice. And they did that against Boston Wednesday, but even getting the loser point was a battle for Edmonton. It took coming back from a 4-1 deficit, and then a 5-4 one, for the Oilers to force overtime in which they fell short.
Edmonton’s top line of Warren Foegele, Connor McDavid, and Zach Hyman led the comeback charge with all three registering two points and a combined 14 shots in the loss. Leon Draisaitl was held pointless for Edmonton for the second time this month, but he’s also got four multi-point outings in February. So the pattern indicates Friday will be a big Draisaitl night.
