This is the third and final meeting of the season between these clubs. The teams split the first two games of the season. Each team has won by the same score 4-3. While the Flames are coming in after a day off, the numbers coming into this game favour the Stars.
In their last eight contests in Calgary, the Stars are 7-1. Over the last five games, the Stars are 4-1 against the Flames, which bodes well for tonight’s game. Dallas is 20th in the league in offence averaging 2.84 goals per game. The line of Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, and Joe Pavelski has provided 40 percent of the Stars offence this season. This is a good and bad thing. Good in the fact that this line is clicking; bad in the fact that the Stars do not have much secondary scoring.
Dallas is ranked 17th in the league for defence giving up 2.79 goals per game. Having guys like John Klingberg and Miro Heiskanen as anchors help. Goaltending has been good for the Stars this year as Jake Oettinger along with Scott Wedgewood has kept this team in the race.
Calgary Flames
The Flames continue to put together a great season under head coach Darryl Sutter. Calgary leads the Pacific Division as they already clinched a playoff spot and looking for the division title. The Flames are sixth in the league in offence averaging 3.55 goals per game. Johnny Gaudreau leads the Flames with 108 points. Matthew Tkachuk is right behind him with 99 points. Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm lead the team with 39 goals each. And Andrew Mangiapane continues his stellar season with 34 goals.
The staple of Darryl Sutter’s team all year has been defence. The Flames are giving up 2.48 goals per game which is the third-best in the NHL. Rasmus Andersson leads all defencemen with 44 points. It also helps when you have a tandem like Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar.
