Ottawa Senators vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds

The Ottawa Senators and Calgary Flames are set for a Thursday night showdown at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. Both teams find themselves outside of the playoff picture entering this contest, as Ottawa’s 67 points are six out of a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference while Calgary’s 55 points are the third-fewest in the Western Conference.

This will be the second and final meeting between these Canadian teams this season. The Senators took the first meeting by a score of 4-3 in a shootout back on October 30, which has the Flames looking for revenge on their home ice in this one. The Senators have controlled this series in recent seasons, as they’ve won three games in a row and six of the last eight meetings against the Flames going back to 2022.

Senators vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

The Senators enter this matchup with a record of 29-22-9, while the Flames are 24-29-7. Ottawa owns 12 more points than Calgary, so it’s not surprising to see the Senators favoured on the NHL odds in this matchup. Ottawa enters with odds of -162 on the moneyline, with Calgary at +136 on the other side.

When it comes to the puckline, the Flames have been a bit more successful than the Senators. More specifically, Ottawa boasts a puckline record of 26-34, while Calgary is 31-29 ahead of this contest. In this particular matchup, Ottawa -1.5 is valued at +170 with Calgary +1.5 available at -205. The game total is set at 5.5, with the over juiced to -135 and the under listed at +114. The Senators are 35-25 to the over, while the Flames are 28-29-3.

Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle are tied for the shortest odds to score a goal at +180. Stutzle leads the Senators with 28 goals in 60 games, while Tkachuk has potted 15 goals in 40 games. With odds of +220, Nazem Kadri has the shortest odds among Calgary players to find the back of the net. Kadri has 12 goals in 60 games this season, and his shooting percentage (6.9 per cent) is his lowest since 2021-22.

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators are still within shouting distance of a playoff spot, which gives them a slightly higher sense of urgency in this matchup. Ottawa has played well coming out of the Olympic break, but have suffered some tough luck in overtime. The Senators are 1-0-2 with a win over the Maple Leafs and overtime losses to the Red Wings and Oilers since coming back from the Olympic break.

Ottawa knows how to score goals. The Senators rank 11th in the NHL with 3.30 goals per game, and the power play has been deadly with a conversion rate of 23.7 per cent – good for eighth in the league. They own a solid mix of finesse and physicality, which makes them hard to play against on a nightly basis.

Defenceman Jake Sanderson gives Ottawa a big edge on the back end in this matchup. Sanderson is up to 48 points on 11 goals and 37 assists, with his 48 points ranking 10th in the NHL among all blueliners.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames are enduring a tough season, as their 55 points are the fourth-fewest in the entire NHL. Things have gone from bad to worse for Calgary since the calendar flipped to 2026, as the Flames have won just six of their 20 games since the start of January.

Goal scoring has been an issue all season long, as Calgary’s 2.45 goals per game is the lowest in the league. Only one player, Nazem Kadri, has reached the 40-point mark, and leading goal-scorer Matt Coronato has just 14 goals on the season.

Hints of a rebuild are already appearing, as the Flames shipped veteran defenceman MacKenzie Weegar to the Mammoth on Wednesday. Weegar doesn’t light up the score sheet, but he’s a solid, experienced defenceman with a ton of value, and his absence will be felt on this Calgary team. The Flames also dealt Rasmus Andersson to the Golden Knights in January, leaving their defensive core even more depleted.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Senators vs. Flames?

Ottawa’s mix of offensive skill and physicality on both ends of the ice present plenty of problems for Calgary in this one. Calgary’s defensive core is weakened without Weegar, and I simply don’t see the offence keeping up with Tkachuk, Stutzle and company. Add in the fact that the Senators have dominated this series in recent seasons and have a heightened sense of urgency, and Ottawa is the team to back in this one. I expect the Senators to leave Calgary with a 4-1 win over the Flames.
