Detroit Red Wings vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Edmonton Oilers wrap up a five-game homestand on Thursday night when the Detroit Red Wings roll into town.
Detroit’s on the second leg of a back-to-back, hanging on for a 4-3 win in Calgary last night. The win was the Wings’ third straight and they now sit in second in the Atlantic Division with 37 points.
The Oilers have won two of their four straight road outings with the results all across the spectrum. Edmonton’s’ two wins saw the Oilers register 15 combined goals, but then a 1-0 shutout loss and 4-3 overtime loss to Buffalo sandwiched around the wins. Buffalo also came into Edmonton on a back-to-back on Tuesday, a loss in which the Oilers failed to pounce on.
Puck drop at Rogers Place goes at 9 p.m. EST with the Oilers a -200 moneyline favourite at home and the over-under at six on the NHL odds.
Red Wings vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
Both Detroit and Edmonton come into Thursday as bottom-eight teams in goals allowed this season, and this combined with the fact both offences are starting to heat up is leading to a bunch of overs. The total has gone over in eight of Detroit’s last 10 outings, and the same is true for six of the Oilers last seven contests played on home ice. During this three-game win streak, Detroit has scored exactly four goals in every win.
The Oilers are 1-4 in their last five games against an Eastern Conference opponent, and Detroit has not lost in regulation against the Oilers in their last three meetings. Thursday’s the last of two regular season meetings between these teams; Detroit won 4-2 back on October 19, a win in which Emmitt Finnie and Dylan Larkin each potted two goals.
Detroit Red Wings
Detroit entered the final period of last night’s win with a 4-0 lead, only to hold off Calgary just long enough and leave a 4-3 victory. Alex DeBrincat scored twice in the win and by adding an assist too he now leads Detroit with 34 points. His 16 goals are one behind Dylan Larkin’s team-leading 17 goals, and it was Larkin putting in the game-winner last night.
John Gibson turned away 34 shots in the win yesterday, meaning Cam Talbot is in line to take the crease in Edmonton. The two veteran goaltenders have essentially split the crease through 31 games and both have identical .884 save percentages. And it doesn’t take an expert to point out that number won’t cut it against the Oilers. Talbot’s posted a sub .900 save percentage in three of his last four appearances too, so a bounce-back performance will be needed.
Edmonton Oilers
Just when you think the Oilers have figured things out, they go down 3-0 at home to Buffalo but claw back only to lose 33 seconds into overtime. Right now the only thing to expect with Edmonton is the unexpected, oh and to be entertained. You can also expect Connor McDavid to stay on a heater. The Oilers captain has five goals and three assists in four games this month and is now second in the NHL with 44 points. Vasily Podkolzin also scored in Tuesday’s loss, his sixth goal of the campaign.
Stuart Skinner didn’t have the best day either on Tuesday, letting in four goals on 28 shots. Skinner’s started six of Edmonton’s last seven games and overall has been playing better than earlier this season, making Thursday presumably a good spot for Skinner another start.
