Detroit Red Wings vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
After meeting just over a week ago, the Detroit Red Wings travel to Edmonton to wrap things up with the Oilers.
The Oilers are returning home from a four-game Eastern Conference road trip where they went 2-1-1. Edmonton is a -223 favourite to win on the NHL odds and the total sits at 6.5.
Red Wings vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
The Oilers stopped in Detroit just over a week ago, beating them 5-2 in their first meeting of the season. Edmonton’s Warren Foegele lead the way with two goals, while Evander Kane (1G, 1A), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1G, 1A) and Philip Broberg (2A) each picked up two points. Tyler Bertuzzi (second of season) and Joe Veleno (seventh) scored for the Wings. Ville Husso had a tough night in net for Detroit, stopping just 22 of 26 shots.
The first game was the second matchup in a row between the teams to hit the Over, breaking a trend of four in a row that went Under. Since Connor McDavid joined the Oilers back in the 2015-16 season, these teams have faced off 11 times. Edmonton leads the series 7-5 in that span.
Detroit is coming into Wednesday’s matchup on a three-game win streak, where they have covered the spread while holding opponents to two goals or less in each game. They hit the Over in their past two matchups and four of their past six games, pushing their record on the total to 24-27-1. The lack of goal-scoring this season has kept Detroit out of the playoff picture at just 3.1 goals per game. They have flipped that script though over the past two games, scoring at least five in both outings.
The Oilers put up an impressive 7-1-2 record over their past 10 games, covering the spread seven times, but ended their road trip poorly Sunday in Montreal. They played the Over on Sunday for the fourth time in their past five, despite scoring just two goals. As the highest-scoring team in the league (3.7 goals per game) it should come as no surprise that they are 32-17-5 on the Over/Under. In seven of the past 10 games Edmonton has played, the total was set at 7.0, so Wednesday’s 6.5 total could be tempting.
Detroit Red Wings
Dylan Larkin led the way for the Red Wings with a pair of goals as they ran over the Vancouver Canucks 6-1 on Monday night. Robby Fabbri (1G, 1A), Andrew Copp (2A), Michael Rasmussen (2A) and defenceman Gustav Lindstrom (1G, 1A) each had two points to solidify the Wings’ third consecutive win.
Netminder Ville Husso has been almost unbeatable during the win streak, allowing just four goals in three games and posting a combined .960 save percentage.
Larkin has scored five goals in the past three games, increasing his team lead in points to 50 in 51 games. The 26-year-old is on pace for the best season of his career, looking to surpass his career high of 73 points back in 2018-19.
Detroit will be looking to extend their win streak to four games and match their season-high, as they make their second stop of a five-game road trip.
Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton took their biggest loss since November on Sunday afternoon, falling 6-2 in Montreal. That ended their four-game road trip with a sour taste in their mouth. The Oilers’ offence only clicked for about two and a half minutes in the second period when Leon Draisaitl (30) notched a power play marker, followed by Evander Kane’s ninth of the season.
Stuart Skinner stopped 24 of 30 shots, letting six goals past him for the first time this season. After being announced as an All-Star this year, the 24-year-old has started to struggle lately, winning just one of his past seven starts.
Sitting in fourth place, with 28 games left in a very tight Pacific Division, only two points separate the Oilers from the Kings in second place. Expect the Oilers to start Jack Campbell, who has won his past eight games, against Detroit.
