Nashville Predators vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Oilers swept their three-game road trip, pushing them up to fourth in the league standings. Nashville snapped a five-game losing streak on Thursday versus St. Louis, only to fall back into the loss column with a 3-0 defeat against the Washington Capitals on Saturday night.
The Oilers are a -180 favourite to win on Tuesday’s NHL odds, with the total set at 6.5.
Predators vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
The Oilers and Predators met three times last season, a series in which the Oilers dominated, taking the games 5-2, 3-2 and 4-0. Leon Draisaitl tore the Predators apart, scoring five goals and an assist for six points in three games.
The Predators are struggling to put the puck in the net early in the season, averaging just 2.44 goals per game (29th in NHL). Their low scoring helped them hit the Under in seven of their first nine games while posting a 3-5-1 record. They have covered the spread only twice in that span.
Edmonton has played the Over in five of their first nine games as the offence continues to stay red hot, clicking at 3.78 goals per game (3rd in NHL). After getting off to a slow start, the Oilers have won four games in a row and covered the spread three times. They are 5-4 ATS overall.
Nashville Predators
After picking up their 900th franchise victory and snapping a five-game losing skid in a dominant 6-3 win over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, the Predators fell right back into the loss column on Saturday with a shutout defeat against Washington.
Goaltender Juuse Saros has done all he can to keep his team in games, stopping 32 of 34 shots versus Washington, including a few highlight-reel breakaway stops. He has posted a 2.75 goals against average, with a .910 save percentage, but is only 2-4-1 on the season.
Nashville’s power play has struggled so far this season, going 3-for-36 (8.3 per cent), which ranks 30th in the NHL. Improvement on the power play would go a long way for a team that is 29th in scoring league-wide.
A huge piece offensively is defenceman Roman Josi, who has only one goal and three assists, with a minus-seven rating so far this season. He was a Norris trophy finalist last season, posting 96 points in 80 games. If he can get back on track, the Predators would be in much better shape.
As they open a five-game road trip tonight, Matt Duchene is leading the way with seven points in nine games, five of which have come in the past five contests.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers open a three-game homestand Tuesday after a successful first road trip of the season. Draisaitl has led the team in scoring over the past five games, picking up eight points (2G, 6A), but Conor McDavid is still the top dog and leads the league with 18 points (9G 9A) through nine games.
Edmonton’s most recent matchup, the battle of Alberta versus the Calgary Flames, proved the Oilers are a force to be reckoned with. Stuart Skinner (3-2-1, 1.59 GAA, 955 SV) got the start in net and stopped 40 of 42 shots, helping his team to a 3-2 win. The fact Skinner got the nod in a rivalry matchup shows the Oilers have a truly talented goaltending tandem with him and Jack Campbell.
Offensively, McDavid put the team on his back scoring a goal and setting up Zach Hyman for a pair of goals for three points in the contest.
Campbell will likely get the nod in goal tonight for a chance at redemption. His 4-2-0 record is respectable but the 3.89 GAA and .888 SV are what needs a turnaround.
